Hello, we are @GuneetKaurAhuja and @aimanjkhan. Today, we examine how UAPA became a handy tool for the party in power to manipulate investigations into mass violence incidents, protect real perpetrators, quell peaceful protests & persecute protestors & other rights defenders. 1/n
This is an old sinister strategy, used by the party in power after 2002 anti-Muslim pogrom, as well. Then, investigations were botched to protect perpetrators & POTA used to further persecute Muslim community & silence those demanding accountability. 2/n

Similar strategies have been used by the party in power post targeted mass violence in #BhimaKoregaon & #Delhi. The aim of perpetrators in both episodes was to violently attack & shut peaceful assertions of constitutional equality by minorities & marginalized. 3/n
1/5 At least 3 people have died and 200 infected across Maharashtra prisons because of Covid19. Yet the National Investigative Agency continues to oppose bail pleas filed on medical grounds by Sudha Bharadwaj, Shoma Sen, Anand Teltumbde, Gautam Navlakha and Varavara Rao. #BK11
2/5 On Thursday, 81-year old Varavara Rao was admitted to a hospital after he fainted in Taloja jail in Mumbai. Though his condition became stable on Saturday morning, it will be life-threatening to send him back to an overcrowded and infected prison again. #BK11
3/5 Detained as undertrials under the repressive Unlawful (Prevention) Activities Act, all six human rights activists suffer from co-morbidities putting them at a heightened risk of contracting COVID19. #BK11
