Before we dig into our review of 2021, let’s set the stage—for why anyone outside Wisconsin should care about this state in the first place. Simply put: what happens in politics here shapes the course of the nation.
Wisconsin is the most evenly divided state in the country. 4 of the last 6 presidential elections have come down to less than 1%. In 2020, President Biden won WI by 20,682 votes—a 0.6% margin. In 2018, Gov Evers won by 1.1% As a result, every election here is a titanic battle.

JFC Republicans want to put $350m that should go to K-12 Education into the Budget Stabilization Fund instead of directly to DPI & schools. This plan puts federal COVID aid for our schools at risk, & even worse — there is no guarantee that it will ever actually go to our kids 1/
After this $350m goes into the Budget Stabilization Fund, there is no requirement that it later be used for education. If do want to spend it, the Legislature would need to pass a brand-new bill appropriating that money. 2/

During this ongoing pandemic, @GovEvers proposed providing tens of thousands of uninsured Wisconsinites with coverage—welcoming $1.6 billion(!) in federal dollars to WI—by expanding BadgerCare/Medicaid. The GOP's opposed.

“To put this in perspective, $1.6 billion is more than the $1.2 billion a year in state tax dollars that go toward the University of Wisconsin System.” In other words, expanding Medicaid would more than cover WI’s bill for the whole UW system. GOP refuses.

One policy on the list for elimination would create statewide standards for toxic, cancer-causing chemicals in our drinking water. Too many communities in Wisconsin are already suffering from contamination of their drinking water. 2/n
The governor’s budget would set a cap on copayments for insulin, a drug that diabetics rely on to survive. Republicans want to throw that out, among a bunch of other provisions on lowering prescription drug costs for Wisconsinites. 3/n
Wisconsinites should not have to struggle to access quality, affordable mental health services. @GovEvers’ #BadgerBounceback agenda proposes investing in initiatives and programs designed to improve Wisconsinites’ access to quality mental & behavioral services and treatment.
His 2021-2023 budget:

His 2021-2023 budget proposal will:

Remember—during oral arguments, Rebecca Bradley, appointed by Scott Walker, compared stay-home orders to Japanese-American internment. Right-winger Pat Roggensack, who is up in 2023, said flare-ups among meat packers don't affect "regular folks."

Rebecca Bradley & Roggensack were joined by Annette Ziegler and, to reach their 4-vote majority, Dan Kelly—the Walker appointee who lost the Supreme Court race here on April 7, but whose term in office doesn't end until July 31. In other words, this was a lame-duck decision.
Today we announced our Badger Bounce Back plan. This plan takes the steps Wisconsin needs to take to decrease #COVID19 cases and deaths and increase capacity in our healthcare system so that a phased reopening of businesses is possible and we can get people back to work. #Thread
In order to turn the dial on Safer at Home and supercharge the Badger Bounce Back, we must:

➡️Expand contact tracing
➡️Aggressively track the spread
➡️Access more #PPE and supplies
➡️Increase healthcare system capacity

As part of that plan the state will be working to increase access to more testing and expand lab capacity. Under the Badger Bounce Back plan, the goal is that everyone who needs a test gets a test.
