GESTION COURSE: VERSTAPPEN vs LECLERC

#F1 #BahrainGP THREAD : datas & enseignements (1/18)

#BahrainGP 🇧🇭: Mike Elliott: “Toto already said we’ve got a different bodywork coming; it won't be the same as other people’s and it won’t be the same as we’ve got, it’ll be different. It’s part of the normal development.”
“We have got a very different sidepod coming – I say very different, a different sidepod that’s coming. I think Toto said that in the press. But it takes time to bring that. It takes time to make the bits, it takes time to change the bits that go underneath the bodywork to fit.”
“so we’ll bring it as soon as we can.”

#BahrainGP 🇧🇭: Upgrades brought by Mercedes:

1. An introduction of small flicks on the front wing end plate for local load.

The flicks help focus the vorticity shed from the wing tip vorticity, improving performance over a wider range of front ride heights.
2. The upper rear wing’s tips were lifted for performance – local load.

Offloading the tip of the wing has shed drag efficiently - this is important for Bahrain and a number of circuits in the early part of the season.
3. Re-profiled the underside of the nose, for performance – better flow conditioning.

Increased front wing local load and improved conditioning of the flow under the chassis and downstream - notably to the underfloor and fences.

#BahrainGP 🇧🇭: Lewis Hamilton on whether he believes he can fight for the championship this year: “We’ll find out over the next couple of days what’s realistic, but I mean, that’s what I prepared myself for. I prepared myself for a championship battle.” 1/4
“But, whether or not we have the equipment to fight for the championship, we’ll find out. I do believe I’ve got the team still, that are championship worthy, it’s just for us to keep our heads down.”
“Last year when we arrived and we had all of those problems, all of us, it was just panic mode, trying to figure out what was the issue and try to fix it. It took us forever to fully understand it.”

#BahrainGP 🇧🇭: Lewis Hamilton once again dismisses quitting/retiring rumours:

“People creating rumours without facts is never helpful. You would have thought that they would both know me by now.”
Lewis Hamilton: “I still believe I’m able to put the car in places that perhaps others are not able to and I love that challenge. Of course I wish that we start the season with a great car but it’s the journey that really counts.”
“I’ve been with Mercedes since I was 13. Having a difficult year we had last year, whether or not we have a difficult year this year, I’ll still be here. I’m a fighter and we fight as a team. I love the challenge of finding solutions.”

Here is the very late @AlpineF1Team #A522 Technical thread. Yep this is a very late, but there is a lot to say about the car with #F1Testing done and dusted (it was quite dusty) - next is the #BahrainGP but first the tech thread!
Renault owned Alpine launched the new A522 Formula 1 car in a ceremony in Paris, however the cars at the launch were simply show cars. The real A522 would appear shortly afterwards in Catalunya.
Before we get to the actual car, I thought it worth noting that the A522 is not the first Alpine F1 car, rather it is the third. The first was the A350 of 1968 never raced after its Renault engine was found to be way down on power compared to the Cosworth DFV. @les_alpinistes

I decided to take a bit of a longer look at the track limits goings on at T4 during the #F1 #BahrainGP yesterday. There is a bit more to this than I think some people have picked up on. /Thread.
On Friday - after Free Practice the rules relating to track limits at T4 were changed. "Advantage" in terms of 27.3 here means overtaking or defending not lap time. This document was circulated to teams and drivers. /2
Once the #BahrainGP got underway, every single driver in the field exploited the exit of Turn 4 pretty much every lap. Here you can see @yukitsunoda07 and @Charles_Leclerc doing just that. /3
