SOME REFLECTIONS about my 3rd tour of duty on the COVID Ward this past weekend at FMC. Compared to Jan (2nd wave) / May (3rd wave) the #COVID19AB patients on FMC COVID Medicine service this weekend were much sicker, and yes, unfortunately vast majority were unvaccinated...[1/8]
Three quarters of my patients were on high flow O2. Previously, many of these patients would have been in ICU and not on a medical ward...I don't believe my patients on OPTIFLOW were included in the 265 patients now "in an ICU", but they probably should be... [2/8]
As a Hepatologist, I was paired with a Respirologist. ICU outreach was Peds ER doc. We did our best, under a lot of stress, but this is not optimal care. We "triaged" those sickest to see ICU 1st...fortunately we are not yet rationing who gets a ventilator... NOT YET ANYWAY [3/8]

Collective sacrifice. A concept rarely asked of us as a society, but one being asked of us at this moment in time, as we face off against #COVIDー19 . Our initial response to this request (viewed through the admittedly skewed prism of social media) is underwhelming to the least.
We’ve all been told of the critical importance of slowing the spread of this disease, lest the healthcare system become overwhelmed and many more persons die. #bendthecurve, etc. We’ve been told the most effective way to do so is to practice...
#SocialDistancing. And to that end, we’ve cancelled concerts, conferences and numerous other venues in which the disease can most easily spread. School districts are closing, businesses are closing and untold amounts of people are working from home.

11º dia após o primeiro caso detetado, 112 casos confirmados. Medidas de contenção anunciadas pelo governo não terão efeitos a curto prazo mas serão importantes a longo prazo. Sejam conscientes, fiquem em casa.
Para reduzir a margem de erro corrigi a projeção do aumento diário em 33% tendo em conta os dois primeiros dias e não apenas o primeiro. Curva azul serve de projeção para o que poderá ser os próximos 4 dias.
