By Dorset Eye -
Fear, shame, embarrassment: these brakes no longer apply. The government has discovered that it can bluster through any scandal. No minister need resign. No one need apologise. No one need explain.
As public outrage grows over the billions of pounds of #coronavirus contracts issued by the #govt without competition, it seems determined only to award more of them. Never mind that the consulting company
#Deloitte, whose personnel circulate in and out of govt, has been strongly criticised for the disastrous system it devised to supply protective equipment to the #NHS. It has now been granted a massive new contract to test the population for #Covid-19.

Someone asked why am I not working in IB in #Bermuda. Being valedictorian of my high school, earning a bachelors degree with honours, elected president of GWU & a graduate fellowship for my masters degree wasn't enough to crack the IB bubble as a black Bermudian man in 2003. -DB
Thankfully, after being unsuccessful in trying to break into Bermuda's private sector, Dr. Ewart Brown had faith in me and gave me the opportunity to computerise TCD in #Bermuda, and I was honoured to repay his faith in me by putting TCD online b/w 2004 & 2007. -DB

We employ a standard gravity framework to quantify abnormal stocks of FDI and portfolio securities over 2009-2017 for up to 236 jurisdictions.
2/5 we provide evidence that about 40% of global asset are abnormal stocks and that: (a) the bulk of international assets in tax havens are `abnormal', i.e unexplained by standard gravity factors; (b) there is a strong heterogeneity among jurisdictions,
3/5 Heterogeneity on the #Map: the larger a country, the more their international financial exchanges are NOT driven by economic and geographic factors.

When Francis #Fukuyama, in his 1992 book, disclosed the "end of history" #thesis, he became a world celebrity.

The formulation was simple, but devastating for the left: faced with the evidence of the disappearance of the #SovietUnion, he could affirm that #communism had failed..
and that #capitalism emerged victorious as the only system that guaranteed #peace, #freedom & #equality.

However, in 2010 Fukuyama acknowledged that he had not understood the meaning of the disappearance of the Soviet Union and the #European socialist bloc.
Fukuyama had believed in the drunkard #Yeltsin (the face of the gravedigger & #thief who prevailed with blood & fire, supported by the #West, with the coup d'etat in #Moscow in 1993) and in the capacity of liberalism to satisfy human needs and, In addition, in 1992, ...

Okay so while all attention is on #Dorian, let's do a quick tour of the rest of the NATL tropics currently, because there are some other systems to talk about.

There is a weak llvl circ. n/ Cuba W of Dorian. It should move into the GoM where it has a chance to organize further.
Next up is an African Easterly Wave that just emerged off the coast. The model guidance has been somewhat optimistic on this wave developing over the next 5-7 days, so worth keeping an eye on it. Aside from the Cape Verde islands, no threat to land.
Let's continue. There is yet another wave out in the middle of the NATL basin. Its battling some fairly strong westerly shear currently, but some models suggest it will get into a more favorable environment as it moves off to the northwest. #Bermuda should keep an eye on it.
