We first looked at the nAbs induced by bivalent mRNA vaccines against BQ.1.1, XBB.1, and XBB.1.5 at baseline, 3-weeks-post boost and 3 months post boost. nAb levels peaked at week 3 post-boost, but waned over a period of time.
We also looked at CD4 and CD8 T cell responses post boost, and found at least a 2-fold increment in CD8T cells specific to BQ.1.1 and XBB.1.5, but not as much for WA_1! What does this mean for T cells? Do they have a more pronounced role than previously understood?
⚠️NEXT BIG ONE—CDC has royally screwed up—unreleased data shows #XBB15, a super variant, surged to 40% US (CDC unreported for weeks!) & now causing hospitalization surges in NY/NE.➡️XBB15–a new recombinant strain—is both more immune evasive & better at infecting than #BQ & XBB.🧵
2) Multiple models show #XBB15 is much worse in transmission R value and infection rate than previous variants — faster by LEAPS and BOUNDS. @JPWeiland did some the earliest models on #XBB15 watching data in NY. it has only grown worse nationwide.
3) in fact, when @JPWeiland first modeled #XBB15 before Xmas, the data shows XBB15 was 108% faster than the previously king #BQ1 variant. But with more data, XBB15 has further accelerated to now being 120% faster!
⚠️BREAKING—CDC now confirms my scoop that super evasive #BQ1 & #BQ11 variants (Typhon & Cerberus) have meteorically surged from *unlisted* 3 weeks ago, to 11% 2 weeks ago—to ⬆️now suddenly 27% today! This is a bad 10-day doubling time! 🇬🇧’s #BQ ~30% too🧵

In a new study, the researchers develop a panel of mRNA-LNP-based vaccines using the RBD of #Omicron & #Delta, which are dominant in the current wave of COVID-19. 1/
In addition to the Omicron- & Delta-specific vaccines, the panel also includes a “#Hybrid” vaccine that uses the RBD containing all 16 point-mutations shown in Omicron & Delta RBD, as well as a #bivalent vaccine composed of both Omicron and Delta RBD-LNP in half dose. 2/
Interestingly, both Omicron-specific & Hybrid RBD-LNP elicited extremely high titer of NAbs against Omicron itself, but few to none NAbs against other SARS-CoV-2 variants. 3/
