Ohio Minority Leader @EmiliaSykesOH helped form the nation’s first state-level Black Maternal Health Caucus, which has introduced bills to address cultural competency training for medical professionals & provide Medicaid reimbursements for doula services.
@EmiliaSykesOH Kentucky’s only Black woman legislator @atticascott4ky introduced bills to review maternal deaths & remove taxes on baby products. She’s also fought back against bans on abortion care, which disproportionately harm poor Black women who face barriers to healthy pregnancies.

I've read several tragic stories of Black mothers dying from childbirth since the end of #BlackMaternalHealthWeek alone. I am so grateful that Black maternal health is an issue #KamalaHarris champions at all times. I'm looking forward to this conversation.

Black maternal mortality & morbidity rates are some of the most urgent health issues in our country, regardless of income level or social status. Black women in every socioeconomic status are impacted by maternal mortality & morbidity. #BlackMaternalHealthWeek

Last week was the inaugural #BlackMaternalHealthWeek, where we work to raise awareness of the rising maternal mortality rate of black women in this country, and commit to addressing this problem head-on.
Black women are 243% more likely to die from pregnancy or childbirth-related causes than white women. Black maternal mortality rates have reached crisis level – it’s past time that we come together to find solutions.
The Quality Care for Moms & Babies Act is one step in the right direction. By improving quality of care for mothers & babies, and taking a more comprehensive healthcare approach, we will help address the disparities in maternal & infant mortality in Ohio. brown.senate.gov/newsroom/press…
