The spread of #BobcatFire to the N creates a precarious situation. A Santa Ana event with winds from NE would align with topography and burn through the western forest very quickly, reaching Sunland/Tujunga in a matter of days. (google earth map facing SW)

Very few ridge-tops perpendicular to santa ana wind vector (red arrows) that could serve as possible lines of defense - just 2 in the middle, but the canyons on either side are aligned with the winds. (yellow lines and circles) #BobcatFire

This makes me feel better. They are working on dozer lines to the south and west of the NW perimeter. (the X-X-X)

I built a makeshift air purifier with an HVAC filter & fan. It’s making a big difference, reducing smoke smell & irritation. I’m measuring 50% reduction in particulates after 30 mins, reducing indoor AQI from “very unhealthy” classification to “unhealthy for sensitive groups”.

Running ~1hr on/off cycles to compare air quality with/without. Just started 2nd on cycle. I’ll post legit plots later & a writeup on @hackaday.io, but for now, here’s a screenshot of my live preview, showing 2.5um particle counts in ug/m3, with ~50% dip during first on-period.

If you have horses, llamas, farm animals get them ready to move. Put trailers nearby. Keep treats handy. Sugar cubes, apples, carrots. Something they like you can use to entice them into the trailers.

To evac sheep/goats/pigs etc? You can fit 4 to 8 in a med sized pickup bed, depending on their size. A mini pony/burro fits in the backseat of a med sized car. Vans work well to evac animals just lay seats down.

This situation took place on the #DolanFire earlier this afternoon.

A group of firefighters became trapped. With no other viable option they were told to deploy shelters. That's something you never hear...nor do you ever want to. [think Granite Mnt Men].

For those of you in towns. Prep now & place by door. Park your car so it's facing out to the street. [you toss in & go] Keep cell on for any new alerts b/c all it takes is just 1 spark. Alert elderly neighbors [they may not know].

Gather pet gear. Carrier, leash, food, meds? Put them in their carrier before opening the door. All animals smell danger & want to flee so even the more placid of pets will bolt out of your arms, if they smell smoke.

If no carrier...no problem. Grab a backpack, a pillowcase & stuff them in. No they won't like it but to bad. They can yell at you while you drive away. Cover birdcage & shove in car.
