"Les Mouches" is based on the a 1943 play by nihilist Jean-Paul Sartre based on an incident freedom fighter who had ambushed Germans soldiers caused the execution of 50 hostages. His themes were "commitment and resistance" using ancient gods and mythology to escape Nazi censors.
