🔥 LAST TALK on #BreadandNet 2021!

What are the implications of the #Facebook Papers for Arabic-speaking users, especially in light of the company's failure to adequately moderate #Arabic language content?

a very timely discussion with @Bissan_Fakih @DiaKayyali and @marwasf!
@Bissan_Fakih @DiaKayyali @marwasf "The #Facebook leaks reveal that it's the worst case scenario for Arabic speakers, although Arabic is a widely spoken language on the platform." @DiaKayyali
"There's bad moderation for a lot of users. At the same time, they're doing a horrible job at training their machine learning systems. These machine learning algorithms want to please Facebook, and they will act as they're trained." Dia

Through the #Watchdog project, we analyzed numerous applications in Lebanon and abroad to ensure their safety and security. Our aim was to push private companies to protect people’s data. @kataya_abd
For example, when pharmaceuticals company Pharmaline assisted in securing #SputnikV vaccines in Lebanon, we found that people were asked to sign a consent form to use their data for commercial purposes at a later time.

😍Our very own #BreadandNet coordinator @q_moses joins @nikkigladstone from @RightsCon, @sarahtallen from @mozillafestival, and Trinh Nguyen from Team CommUNITY to discuss the opportunities and challenges in hosting an online digital rights event.

👏Power in Convening👏
@q_moses @nikkigladstone @rightscon @sarahtallen @mozillafestival "The biggest challenge to bringing @RightsCon online was how to organize and arrange sessions, how people would access and attend the event in a safe and comfortable environment. " - Nikki
@q_moses @nikkigladstone @rightscon @sarahtallen @mozillafestival We call @BreadandNet an unconference because although yes, we do want to host sessions, what we really care about is the community. During the physical #BreadandNet events in Beirut, you would always see people gathering, connecting, and creating space for collaborations." Moussa

#COVID19 vaccine “passports": a new frontier threatening human rights

with @marwasf @GhinwaHayek @veroluiza

#BreadandNet
@marwasf @GhinwaHayek @veroluiza "The issue in the MENA region is that there is unequal access to vaccines." @veroluiza
