For those who aren't aware of it, here's the background: Michael Foot, Tony Benn (and their protégé Jeremy Corbyn) eventually stood on a Brexit platform against Margaret Thatcher in 1983, and lost so badly that it gave birth to the Thatcher era.

For the purists. ... Yes, Thatcher was first elected in 79. But she was in trouble in 83, despite the Falklands. It would have been one term for her if a united Labour had put up a decent candidate. It was Labour's landslide loss in 83 that turned the Thatcher episode into an era
