NEW: The British government is introducing a mandatory reporting obligation on managed service providers to disclose cyber incidents, alongside minimum security requirements which could see them fined up to £17 million for non-compliance.

therecord.media/uk-introducing…
Why does this matter?

Managed service providers (MSPs) are a critical part of the IT industry. They basically provide the IT departments for a lot of small and medium-sized enterprises that aren't big enough to have their own, and usually also support large enterprises too.
This means that MSPs' computer networks often connect into the networks of a lot of other companies.

So when one of them gets hacked - as happened to Kaseya, below - a lot of other companies can also get compromised. In that case more than 1,500.

Morning all,
Things to look forward to this week:
1. No gas. Yes, that's right, we're running out of gas. Government says there is no immediate cause for concern, which is shorthand for "We're fucked"
2. No carbon dioxide. So not only will your tonic be flatter than ....
.... a vampire's ECG, but you'll be lucky to get any prepack fresh meat which relies upon the stuff too.
3. No fresh meat - the good news is, the shortage of CO2 won't be an issue, because of the shortage of staff at meat processing plants.
4. The staff shortage....
....... isn't an issue because even if there were butchers, and CO2, there are no frigging lorry drivers, so it's all moot. Take advantage of this opportunity to embrace vegetarianism, and get stuck into a nice cauliflower, or some juicy courgettes.
5. Except they are all rotting

In a meeting today, Elizabeth Denham from @ICOnews assured me that she was “relaxed” about the UK keeping “high data protection standards”.

The Government have today appointed IDS @MPIainDS, Theresa Villiers MP and @GeorgeFreemanMP to front the axing.

gov.uk/government/pub…
@ICOnews @MPIainDS @GeorgeFreemanMP This is what they say about #GDPR.
And they say they measure this in whether they can see an end it “pointless cookie banners”.

#GDPR could end this nonsense today, if @ICOnews had the courage to act on it.

What IDS et al seem to be saying is that transparency is fine, don’t worry about the ads.

Not just Sky!!! UK operators are no longer free to supply audiovisual
services in the EU with UK licence. So no Freeview, Virgin etc. Also with a UK subscription U won't be able to watch Netflix, NowTV, AmazonPrime, or listen to Spotify, AppleMusic in your pool in Tuscany. 1/
The UK has left the EU Digital Single Market & the Audiovisual Media Services Directive no longer applies. The EU had issued
guidance for broadcasters & video streaming services, to state that after Brexit ‘persons residing in the UK 2/
would no longer benefit from their digital content subscriptions when travelling to the EU’. Television was also regulated by the Audiovisual Media Services Directive. Post-Brexit we will default to the European Convention on Transfrontier TV of 1989 when the UK only had 4 TV 3/

Britain should be championing human rights, not trashing them - and our global reputation along with.

After WW2 we helped create the European Convention & Court, with Churchill playing key role.

I love our country. This is not who we are.
uk.mobile.reuters.com/article/amp/id…
Written in 1950, the European Convention on Human Rights is supported by 47 states, stretching far beyond EU

It’s one of the world’s anchors for a free & fair society

We must stop #Johnson taking away the rights & freedoms of Brits under guise of Brexit

Sadly this is not a new fight...

I’ve defended human rights before from Tory attacks, and I’ll defend them again.

And I’d hope the vast majority of the British people are with me.

Protecting human rights is who we are.

Today is possibly .@theresa_may's last day as PM, if .@BorisJohnson can command a majority (which is in some doubt...)

So it's a great opportunity to look back at some of the *highlights* of Mrs May's premiership in memes👇
13 JUL 2016: May was appointed as PM and named her Cabinet shortly thereafter, surprising many by giving 3 of the top #Brexit-related jobs to arch-brexiters Boris Johnson, David Davis & Liam Fox. Sheer folly, or genius in making them own what they'd sold? Sadly, the former😢
/1.
5 OCT 2016: With such a narrow result, the country could be forgiven for expecting May to propose a consensual solution, as Norway PM Erna Solberg had done in a similar situation. Most Remainers would've accepted #Norway.

May's #CitizensOfNowhere speech crushed all hope.

Vote for #Farage and get this. This man is Crispin Odey. He bankrolled #VoteLeave and made 220m when leave won by shorting the pound. Farage helped the markets to fluctuate when he 'conceded' the referendum early. You are being used to fill their pockets. #BrexitParty #EUElection
Odey also has links to Rees-Mogg. He helped Jacob set up his hedge fund, and also helped towards his election costs. They are all in this together, they pretend to care about the working-class, but in truth they are exploiting us to make more money. ft.com/content/a42110…
Thank you to everyone that has RT this so far, please keep sharing it, it may help some people change their minds about the #EUElections2019

New #BrexitDividend Stealth Tax!

Just when you thought that @Theresa_May's government couldn't get any more shifty, they've introduced a cunning stealth tax by reducing the validity of your passport when you renew it. (Great spot @MoneySavingExp !)

moneysavingexpert.com/news/2018/09/p…
Before, if you renewed your passport within the final 9 months, the unused portion would be added to the length of your new passport so you got what you paid for. Now, they have decided stop that - so you will lose any time between when you renew and the final validity date.
This may not seem like a big deal but, with #Brexit looming, passports are a huge deal to the over one million British citizens living in the EU. As the UK does not issue ID cards, UK citizens have little in the way of official ID other than a passport.

1/ Welcome to Monday in the independent republic of Brexitlandia
2/ Number 10 says the UK really really is behind Brexit because it’s the will of some people to make more people poorer
3/ And given all the extra work needed to make everyone of us poorer apparently we should give MPs more money 🤯

So @theresa_may says she is going to deliver the “brexit people voted for”.
I have a few questions about how she is going to do that and in asking them I will be assisted by just a small sample of people that voted leave who are pretty clear she won’t.

(1)
So @theresa_may what brexit will you deliver and which people will it please?

Firstly, whatever it is, it won’t be the brexit that 16.4 million opposed in 2016, nor what was wanted by @The3Million EU citizens that or so many @BritishInEurope that were denied a vote!
(2)
.@theresa_may will it be the brexit that all those who voted leave in protest against the establishment/the Tory party (like these ⬇️ guys).

Does this mean you are going to reform our electoral system in brexit so we have PR and U.K. politics becomes less London centric?
