Apparently @Bline4Everyone has stirred up enough #GoodTrouble, we've got a local political group organizing against us. If I were to pick a name of an anti-housing group locally, I couldn't do better than "By Design." A thread🧵👇 1/n
It was #ByDesign our land use is so racially segregated. Racially restrictive covenants and redlining made sure "undesired" minorities were excluded from communities. See @SegByDesign and 2/n
It is #ByDesign that certain areas of #Brookline and other Boston metro communities continue to exclude poorer people. Minimum lot sizes, apartment bans, parking minimums, all of these serve to drive up the expense for would be neighbors. 3/n

1. Fundraiser 🧵:

I tried to stop by @JaponaiseBakery in #Brookline today but discovered they closed for renovations last month. 🥳 ImageImage
2. This is sad for me in the short term but good news in the long term!

@JaponaiseBakery has been open since 1985—36 years! I hadn’t expected to be able to find fresh Japanese baked goods when I came to Boston & was ~really~ excited to find their now-closed kiosk in Porter Sq.
3. @JaponaiseBakery eventually moved from a kiosk to a small space in the hall of restaurants, but sadly closed the Porter Sq. location in 2015. Image

1/ Over the last several weeks, I began journaling my response to the murders of #GeorgeFloyd, #AhmaudArbery and #BreonnaTaylor. My world is uniquely intertwined to the present challenges.
2/ As an African-American father of 3 boys, I am a son of Ghanaian heritage, and married to a beautiful scientist of Ghanaian-American descent. I have the privilege of co-pastoring a multi-ethnic church in the Boston area.
3/ All of my worlds are affected by the brokenness of racial injustice.

a thread about periods; buckle up.

Just wrote an article on #periodpoverty, #periodshame, and access to #menstruation products — regardless of gender identity.

#Brookline, MA is the first town to legislate FREE products, tamps and pads, all over town, starting in 2021.
I know firsthand was period shame and period poverty are — and how they can fuck with you. When I got my period at 11, I felt immediately broken and less-than. I'd internalized ideas that I was gross, smelly, dirty. I cried to my mother and she assured me I was still amazing.
Later in life, as things got harder and harder, period poverty crept in. The amount of times we had to use balled up toilet paper — or hope someone had a tampon or pad (tamps were often not used due to "virginity" issues) ... was a lot. Sometimes we just didn't have the money....
