Shout out to First Ward Action Council for giving the extremely low-income tenants currently occupying the properties purchased for this project (touted by @MayorRichDavid as one that will “create” affordable housing opportunities” until this Friday to move out or be removed. 1/
I spoke with 1 of 6 still residing at one of these homes this morning. “We can’t find anything. Everyone just wants to rent to students.” They’d been promised an apartment visit last week but the landlord took their application, including the required fee, & never followed up. 2/
We cannot keep allowing elected officials to wax eloquent pretending to care about our most vulnerable neighbors without implementing policies within the private market or prioritizing funding allocations that would actually impact change. 3/

To get a good location, depth and magnitude for a quake, we need nearby seismometers
Australia got its first permanent seismometer in Perth in 1901 (WA areleaders in earthquakes!)
By 1955 there were only FIVE permanent seismometers in the whole country!

Before seismometers, our earthquake location and magnitude information come from newspaper articles. We use the intensity of shaking described to get approximate information about the quake. Stronger shaking means closer to the earthquake, and higher magnitude
