2022 #Midterms Simulation: #ArtoftheGerrymander

A Republican House win will be built on gerrymanders (TX/GA/FL/TN/LA, etc.)

To illustrate the need for fair maps, I'm calculating the results using the 2022 votes, but if every state had a Democratic gerrymander. #ElectionTwitter ImageImageImageImage

I’ll apply the difference in Presidential margin to the House result. Thanks @davesredist @mikemathieu @vest_team + @DKElections @PoliticsWolf

Keen to see how my maps perform over the decade; tried to comply with state law if partisan intent were allowed to stand.
#ArtoftheGerrymander: #Alabama
Trump 62.0% - Biden 36.6%
Real delegation: 6R-1D
Gerrymandered: 5R-2D
Δ Share of D seats: 14% => 28%
Easy Democratic pick-up of a safe new African American seat.… ImageImageImage

First read: this "starting point" map for the CA commission is decent for Rs. It eliminates a Dem seat in LA County (as expected) and imperils Harder (D) in #CA10, while leaving all incumbent 11 Rs w/ a path to victory (though Nunes & esp. Issa would face much tougher races).
Notable shifts in this early "visualization" (North):

#CA01 LaMalfa (R) - Trump +15 to +6
#CA04 McClintock (R) - Trump +10 to +8
#CA07 Bera (D) - Biden +14 to +4
#CA10 Harder (D) - Biden +3 to Trump +1
#CA21 Valadao (R) - Biden +11 to +9
#CA22 Nunes (R) - Trump +5 to Biden +3
Notable shifts in this early "visualization" (South):

#CA25 Garcia (R) - Biden +10 to +12
#CA36 Ruiz (D) - Biden +14 to +8
#CA39 Kim (R) - Biden +10 to +8
#CA45 Porter (D) - Biden +11 to +15
#CA48 Steel (R) - Biden +2 to Trump +1
#CA50 Issa (R) - Trump +8 to Biden +6

We’re now officially two months away from Election Day. That’s 8 weeks, 56 days or 1,344 hours. No matter how you slice it, we are rapidly approaching a crossroads for the North State. (1/6)
We started this movement nearly 3 years ago because we wanted to create a better future for our communities. We have kept this fight going because we want the leaders who represent us to reflect our North State values and vision, and to keep our interests at the forefront. (2/6)
Our fight for effective leadership has grown exponentially, and I could not be more proud of what we have accomplished and created together.

Your passion, your grit, and your resolve empower me every single day to be the advocate you deserve in Congress. (3/6)

.@RepDonBacon (R-#NE02): "This (USPS) Bill was not perfect, but the critical role the postal service plays in our country and the fact the postal system will become insolvent next year led me to vote in support."…
.@RepBost (R-#IL12): "While Congress approved additional funding today with my support, I still share President Trump’s concerns over the process in place for counting an unprecedented number of votes by mail."…
Rep. @VernBuchanan (R-#FL16): "Millions of Americans, especially seniors, depend on a healthy and functioning Postal Service. I voted for the bill today to make sure the Postal Service has the resources to deliver the mail."

As climate change progresses, we see the continued stress on trees & a proliferation of pine beetles, resulting in sudden death of trees. I don’t live next to nat’l or state forest. All around me are privately owned lots. I’m on an acre, so are my neighbors on each side. #CA01
The guy behind us is on 5 acres. It’s thickly wooded. My next door neighbor on 1 acre had about 3 or 4 (maybe more) trees suddenly die. She cut them down. Over 6 years, we’ve cut down 7. There are dead trees across fwy from me. I’ll bet there are some on the 5 acres behind me.
I drive a couple of miles to local grocery store, passing homes of various lot sizes. Wooded. Dead trees here & there. Not cut down yet. It’s expensive! Really expensive! We’ve spent about $4k removing trees. My lot is sparsely treed. Others are pretty thick. #CA01

Update: What we thought was an ovarian cyst, turned out to be a football-sized tumor on my ovary. It’s benign & I'll be back on the campaign trail soon! Quick reflection on healthcare & challenges facing our large, rural, 11-county #CA01 district: (1/8)
Two points about healthcare in #CA01 -- First point: When it comes to cost, two thirds of bankruptcies in our country are related to a medical crisis. I was almost one of them. (2/8)
When I took a leave of absence from my job as an educator to run for Congress in #CA01 & campaign full-time, my employer convinced me to continue health insurance via COBRA. I’m grateful they did. No one should go bankrupt because of health issues. (3/8)
