Hi everyone, happy to be here! I was in a work meeting this morning so couldn't tweet right off the bat! Its very busy in work @IrishGeorgian right now as we've just re-opened the restored City Assembly House to the public and are hosting an incredible exhibition of 18C Irish art
The City Assembly House on Dublin's South William Street was built in 1765-66 by the Society of Artists in Ireland - it was the first public exhibition gallery in Ireland & Britain! In this 1795 print by Malton you can see the corner of CAH to the right of Powerscourt Townhouse.
The current exhibition 'Exhibiting Art in Georgian Ireland' recreates an 18thC salon style hang in the restored octagonal exhibition room, which means the paintings are hung from floor to ceiling. The building is open to the public 7 days a week, 10am to 5pm & is free! #CAH1766
