#Cardiff woke up to the anticipated snow covering this morning, which meant that there were some very slight changes to normal service. Roath Park Lake in the snow.
🚦Priority travel routes were gritted overnight last night, and most roads ran well throughout the day, with traffic reported to be lighter than usual.
There were some issues this morning in north Cardiff, on Thornhill Road, north of the junction with Capel Gwillym Road, and on Rhiwbina Hill.

Here is Cardiff city council 'consultation' / proposal to close your @TheCardiffStory going to cabinet 22nd Dec.
I am an expert on this- it is expensive to move a museum. A mobile or virtual museum is just a proposal to close by stealth.
How much is #CardiffsStory worth to you? Extract from the cardiff city council papers
@TheCardiffStory delivers.
It connects future generations to their stories @futuregencymru . It supports community building @CAERHeritage.

We were in this pub with these @FiLiA_charity women, sat at a table at the other end of the smoking area. A pink haired security guard assumed we were of the same kin, came to a table with 4 lesbians and asked us to leave. 1/
One of our table asked why we were being told to leave, we had been sitting there quietly for one drink. Was accused of being rude for asking questions. Eventually she left us alone because there was no explanation. We refused to leave, until we saw one of the other women 2/
Being cornered by two of the security men. We went out and I reminded them of the Equality Act in the UK (SEX being a protected charactistic) and the @MForstater case protecting our beliefs in law. I was told that these men did not have provide their names to me 3/

1/ FiLiA is driven by the passion + dedication of its team.

Our annual event is unfunded and organised by volunteers. In 2019 we measured the Woman-hours that made FiLiA happen ... 8,344! It's more now, as FiLiA has grown.

Some things along the way ...

2/ We took FiLiA out of London to reach more Women and to grow the movement. Our CEO moves every year to hear from and engage local Women.

We gained charitable status.

We started the Friends of FiLiA scheme to support Women to participate in FiLiA.

#CardiffCity 2020/21 financial results covered a season when they finished 8th in the Championship. Manager Neil Harris was replaced by Mick McCarthy in January 2021, since succeeded by Steve Morison In November 2021. Some thoughts in the following thread.
#CardiffCity pre-tax loss narrowed from £12m to £11m, as revenue rose £9m (20%) from £46m to £55m and operating expenses were cut £3m (4%), though profit on player sales fell £11m from £14m to £3m.
#CardiffCity broadcasting income rose £11m (31%) from £37m to £48m, as money deferred for games played after 2020 accounts offset lower parachute payments. Match day fell £2.5m (68%) from £3.7m to £1.2m, as games played without fans. Commercial slightly increased to £5.6m.

Haldane stresses that "Missions" are not government targets, but are "loftier goals" that have actions that governments, private sector, VCSE, etc can all contribute towards to #IfGLevellingUp

#CardiffCity 2019/20 accounts cover a season when they finished 5th in the Championship following relegation from the PL, losing in the play-off semi-final. Manager Neil Warnock was replaced by Neil Harris in November 2019, since succeeded by Mick McCarthy. Some thoughts follow.
#CardiffCity swung from £3m profit to £12m loss, as revenue fell £79m (63%) from £125m to £46m due to relegation and COVID, partly offset by profit on player sales rising £12m to £14m, while expenses were down £33m and no repeat of prior year £20m provision for the Sala transfer. Image
#CardiffCity £79m revenue fall was largely driven by broadcasting’s £70m (66%) decrease from £107m to £37m, due to lower TV money in Championship, though commercial also dropped £5m (48%) from £10m to £5m and match day fell £4m (53%) from £8m to £4m. Image

🏙️ We need to talk about planning, because let’s face it, whether it’s a proposal to build a high-rise around the corner, the struggle to find an affordable place to live, or something as simple as building an extension to your kitchen, it affects all of us.
So how does planning in #Cardiff work? Truth is, it’s complicated. Social media isn’t always the best place for complicated (and let’s be honest, sometimes controversial) issues, but it’s important, so we’re going to give it a try in this THREAD.
It does get exciting we promise (later we'll tell you about your chance to help shape Cardiff's future).

But if you want to duck out now, we won’t take offence and you can also find a lot of this information here: cardiffnewsroom.co.uk/releases/c25/2…

The rest of you, take a deep breath.

Our lives as welsh language speaking of colour differ hugely from the lives of non-POC who speak Welsh and and people of colour who don’t speak Welsh. A thread. 1/
There is an idea that only white people speak Welsh. This is plainly untrue. Many people of colour speak Welsh, and according to historian @Seimon_Brooks_, around 10% of #Cardiff docklands spoke Welsh during the heyday of shipping in South Cardiff 2/
On a theoretical level, these conversations are emblematic of the insider and outsider dynamic. Who is an “outsider” to the Welsh language? Who is an insider? What hierarchies, if any, emerge, and how are they exploited? 3/

Grangetown is the most multiracial part of Wales. Gentrification has made Grangetown and especially south and north Grangetown an attractive area as rent prices rise in #Cardiff, often pushing out Grangetownians who can't afford to live there any more 2/
We need a real radical grassroots campaign against gentrification to secure the longterm health of Cardiff, and to make sure that gentrification doesn't act as a form of colonisation [along with the attitude to esp young BAME people] from/by middle classes 3/
