Peak in charter expirations moves to 2025 as non-operating owners lock in more long-term deals

Less than 20% of the publicly-listed non-operating owners’ (NOO) charter capacity will come up for renewal in the next 18 months, one of the lowest ratios seen in the modern container market.

...with #carriers, who have been forced to accept such deals in order to secure #tonnage in the hot market. The largest amount of charter capacity will now expire in 2025, with a quarter of the public companies’ #charters due to continue until at least the end of 2026.

There is a lot in the proposed #CSP rules to be concerned about, but 3 new requirements stand out as particularly problematic:
1) A requirement for a community impact study that sets the expectation that charter schools should only exist to serve “extra” students who exceed district capacity. This subjugates families and students to the needs of the district, instead of empowering their own choices.
2) A #charterschool must demonstrate a plan for a diverse student & staff, regardless of its location/community preferences. This ignores our country’s housing segregation & dismisses the value of culturally affirming schools–including ones that serve indigenous populations.
