There are no qualifications for the appointment of #COAS except to be a serving General of #Army. It is the sole discretion of the #PM to advise the President to appoint/reappoint any one of the serving Generals of Army u/s 8-a of Army Amendment Act 2020. 1/3👇
PM may appoint or reappoint anyone from amongst the serving Generals of Army or Air Chief Marshals or Admirals of Navy at his discretion. There is no seniority clause for both #COAS & #CJSC in the Army Act.
PM may also determine the terms & conditions for such appointments. 2/3👇
However, the upper age limit is 64 years for both the Army Chief and Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee. (See Section 8-c and 8-f of Army Amendment Act 2020 respectively)
