2/📚 The Central Limit Theorem states that the distribution of sample means approaches a normal distribution as the sample size (n) increases, given that the population has a finite mean and variance. It's a cornerstone of inferential statistics! #CLT #DataScience #RStats
3/🔑 Why is the CLT important? It allows us to make inferences about population parameters using sample data. Since many statistical tests assume normality, CLT gives us the foundation to apply those tests even when the underlying population is not normally distributed. #RStats

🧵 Lot of interest in gun raffles these days. I was interviewed yday by @wsoctv in CLT about one for a youth baseball team in Bessemer City, NC. It was a very brief story so here are some addtl thoughts.

(1) Raffles are legal. Guns are legal. Combing the two is legal. All legitimate gun raffles, including the one in NC, require winners to pass a background check in order to take possession of the gun.
(2) Charities raffle things that people value to incentivize donations. E.g., despite the harm it causes in society many groups use alcohol raffles to raise money for charity.

I’ll break my #iphc23 report into chapters: 1. Plenary & Policy Overview, 2. Conference presentations, 3. Expo, followed by 4. An editorial. (And perhaps some highlights of the short vacation I took afterwards to #Xinjiang, if I have time.)
1. Plenary & Policy: it was clear from the first moment I landed in Beijing that this event would not be a typical #Passivhaus conference. The Chinese Gov rolled out the red carpet, not just for practitioners, but as an all out International trade event. #IPHC23
Though I decided to make the hard decision to close the @weareblktechclt space, I am grateful for the outpouring support from community and true supporters whose lives we touched. Folks who prayed for us, brought their babies into our space, gave back relentlessly to our cause.
Sometimes the hard thing about hard things is making strategic decisions to end the suffering. To extract ourselves from unnecessary hardships.
In this case, we were spending a great deal of resources and time simply trying to operate a physical space.

In an effort to activate space consistently, we created jobs, cultivated community, hosted government officials, turned compelling conversations into safe space for discourse and discovery on the Black experience in #CLT.
