Hey yall

it's a Friday cornucopia of news today...

right now... @GovofCO giving us an update on the dial system...

this will be important for businesses around the state..

details below

#COVID19colorado
Governor Polis notes a pretty sizeable uptick in daily case counts...

around 1800 today...

that's significant... but also could be result of increased testing.

also have now given more than a half million Coloradans at least one dose of COVID vaccine

(that's good news)
Governor starts off dial talk by noting "breaching hospital capacity" is critical...

(Why I always say HOSPITALIZATIONS are among the most critical metrics)

We have not breached it. So today we get Dial 2.0

"it's a more responsive dial"

Gov. Jared Polis said Friday he was “shocked we were lied to” after The Washington Post reported that there is no stockpile reserve of vaccine doses that the HHS secretary promised earlier this week would soon be released. He has a news conference at 12:30 bit.ly/3idGrlC
NOW: Gov. Jared Polis, who today said Colorado was “lied to” by the U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services about promised vaccine shipments, is giving an update on the COVID-19 pandemic in the state.

WATCH LIVE: bit.ly/2MAXCQT #COVID19Colorado
Gov. Polis: Today I come before you extremely disappointed that we were lied to by plans from the administration to get second doses.

“There is no federal reserve of doses,” Polis said, explaining the state was expecting 210,000 doses next week. Colorado will only get 79,000.

THREAD: Let me attempt to walk you through this word salad we just received from the state of Colorado....

We asked them about the 5 Star Program, which allows certified businesses within counties to jump up a restriction level if they pass an inspection. #COVID19colorado
Technically that would mean counties that are shifting to orange tomorrow would be able to let 5 Star Businesses move to yellow. For example, that might mean a restaurant could allow 50% capacity inside a dining room instead of 25%....
.@GovofCO made this decision to move red counties to orange, even if some of them don't fully fit the metric. For example, Douglas County's two week case incidence rate is 385 per 100,000. The state requires less than 350 to move to orange from red.

Before clicking the link, I assumed the case would be in a ski town, where spread from an international traveler would be quite plausible. But no.

This would seem to imply wider community spread. 😬😬😬
Elbert County is a rural plains county east of Castle Rock and just west of Limon, with a population of ~23,000. Not where you’d expect a new international variant of a novel virus to first appear.

So... if it’s there, it’s probably also elsewhere. 😬 #COVID19Colorado

Polis echoes guidance to limit social gatherings, consolidate grocery trips, avoid outdoor dining and do take-out instead.
Polis says the first Coloradans will get the vaccine in December. Most won't receive the vaccine until sometime in 2021. "The end is in sight but it is still a long time from now until then," Polis says.

Few things to note...

This is NOT a lockdown.

But it will impact your life in Denver.

I have highlighted a few of the bigger changes
Schools?

Under level 3... it's recommended that schools (higher ed and k-12) move to hybrid or remote only

Note... this is a recommendation.

Up to school districts to decide.

Currently, in Denver, K-5 has in-school learning available.
