“The only other virus that attacks and kills T-cells is HIV, which causes AIDS, said Katzenback.”

Maybe repeatedly infecting our kids with SARSCoV2 wasn’t such a great idea?

Guess we’ll find out.

“With the loss of these T-cells, we are now more vulnerable to all of these other infections, other viruses, other bacteria,” said Katzenback.

#Covid #LongCovid #Health #Strep #StrepA #Flu #pneumonia
“Individuals who are infected with COVID have many fewer T-cells,” said Katzenback. “That’s a problem for us because T-cells are a really important part of our immune system that helps defend us against infection.”

If you're still trying to avoid Covid while 99.9% of the world are trying to share it directly with you, you have my utmost respect.
It's exhausting, I know it's exhausting.
And it's isolating, and it's thankless, and it's unceasing.

Is anyone even getting antivirals any more?

It's interesting how often tone-policing is the first response to legitimate criticism. Am I angry at Bonnie Henry and the terrible impact she's had on Canada's Public Health response to the pandemic? You betcha. I genuinely try to use measured language when tweeting but...
Her decision to drop virtually all covid protections in British Columbia, thereby justifying other PH officials doing the same, is utterly indefensible. People are literally dying because she refuses to acknowledge she's wrong. #CovidIsntOver #covidisairborne #longcovidisreal...
Being polite isn't getting us anywhere. We need to speak the truth. Politicians and public health leaders have adopted ageist, ableist policies that are maiming & killing thousands, including many previously healthy, young people. None of us should be okay with that....

I interviewed @MeetJess on the death of 6-year-old Jimari Williams from a “mystery illness” in Detroit & the broader context of governments dismantling all mitigation measures to slow the spread of #COVID19 and other pathogens. A🧵of key quotes. 1/ wsws.org/en/articles/20…
"Until an autopsy is done, we can’t say for certain whether he died of COVID or another illness. Will we ever know what happened to this child? I don’t know. But why haven’t they brought back masks into the school? " #BringBackMasks 2/ wsws.org/en/articles/20…
"We know that COVID can damage the immune system... Jimari’s death could have been brought on by COVID, or perhaps past COVID infections could have made this H. influenzae infection worse than it would have been otherwise." 3/ wsws.org/en/articles/20…

A 🧵on #COVID19 Survivorship Bias
on #SocialMedia

Working as a counsellor and drawing on personal experience as someone who’s immunocompromised, I’m ever conscious of the growing gulf between private and public experiences in this pandemic. Image
Survivorship Bias refers our mental short cut that focuses us on stories of success, not failure. This distorts our world view and also impacts our capacity to assess risk in a pandemic where public health has been dumped in favour of ‘personal responsibility’. #COVID19
It comes from a famous example from World War Two when the military tried to assess the damage on returning planes in order to protect future ones and initially decided the planes’ extremities like wings etc were most vulnerable. #CovidIsntOver

How are you so prepared for COVID?

I buried my lover in 1993 due to HIV AIDS after spending six years helping out with activism, drugs and policy.

So I knew to do a few things in January 2020 to now. 🧵1/6
1. Started wearing masks, because protection from infection is rule one.

2. Started stocking up on food, and medical supplies, because it wouldn't be there (and it wasn't during the early stages)

3. Started informing my friends and family to be safe. 2/6
4. Built a system to keep my neighborhood supported with volunteers, skills and supplies.

5. Started researching alternative meds, supplements.

6. Got vaccinated day 1 I was allowed. 3/6
