295 was to be F55
F55 turned out to be a dud. Introduced into service in 1915 withdrawn shortly after due to poor condition. Officially withdrawn in 1921 and scrapped in 1937.

6 purchased for CR 1912 for construction duties.
Originally 4-4-0T but converted c. 1910 by NSWGR

CR kept NSWGR road numbers of the Q-158 locos but assigned them to class D

3 engines sent to Kalgoorlie other 3 worked out of Port Augusta. Assigned to shunting duties once G class locos in service.

The L class locos were used on some construction trains and not much else as they were delivered to CR as GM diesel-electric's entered service making the L class surplus. Some were never used.

There was a problem with smoke entering cabs of the C locos so various designs of smoke deflectors were tried and small short smoke deflectors located either side of the funnel was the solution.

In the 1920s/30s CR considered that at least 14 KA locos were surplus to requirements and tried to sell them, fortunately unsuccessfully, because of the subsequent demands on rail in WW2.
