1) Changes to Schedule 1 Chemicals:

The chemical used, however, is not listed in the Annex on Chemicals. Today, although some peer-reviewed articles have been published in scientific journals, specific information on their detection and identification as well as protection and countermeasures is still lacking.

This effort by @cwccoalition and others to inform/ structure civil society engagement with CWC/ #OPCW issues is a fundamental step in community building and bringing old and new voices in. It is now important for States Parties to add structure from their side too. 3/4
1/4: Voting on #OPCW Programme & Budget has become common practice, representing difference of opinion on legitimacy of the IIT and - for the some in the 'no' camp - their denial that the Syrian government has used #chemicalweapons. But who votes no and how often? #CSP26

If the Syrian chemical dossier remains at the very core of the #OPCW concerns, more than 9 years after Syria's accession to the Convention, it is precisely because chemical weapons have continued being used by one of its Member States.
Far from being exemplary in the past, #Syria's lack of cooperation since the adoption of C-25/DEC. In April 2021 is now blatant and shows a deliberate desire to obstruct the OPCW's work.

On Nov. 29, the member states of the Chemical Weapons Convention will gather in The Hague for the 26th Conference of the States Parties. Let's take a moment to review some of the topics that will be discussed! @OPCW #CSP26 (1/7) 
@OPCW Central Nervous System-Acting Chemicals: At the 96th Executive Council, the Council recommend a vote take place during CSP-26 to agree that the aerosolized use of CNS-acting chem by law enforcement shouldn’t be considered a permitted riot control tool under the CWC. (2/7)
Budget: The member states will vote on the draft Programme and Budget, which is necessary to keep the OPCW functioning. For the first time, the budget will be biennial, meaning it will cover finances for 2022 and 2023. (3/7)
Thinking about IOs & #genderbalance, just saw link about #OPCW Confidentiality Commission. Policies and strategies can (and do) improve balance in Secretariat, but are we lagging behind in terms of State Party appointed bodies? 1/3 opcw.org/media-centre/n… @INTGenderChamps #CSP26
I don't know much on this, but I assume its harder to regulate State Party bodies - or perhaps not? Raising awareness, encouraging #gender balanced applicant submissions, but onus is on SPs - can #OPCW rewrite ToRs to formalise a balance? Low priority? @INTGenderChamps #CSP26
Current #OPCW Confidentiality Comm appears heavily male dominated- not sure if the link is up2date tho. When we think of #genderbalance #genderperspectives in IOs, need to look beyond Secretariats and SPs delegations - theres a grey area in between! opcw.org/about/subsidia… #CSP26
