I am so tired of every govt pissing on us…so tell you what..here’s my day so far. And then, tell me what would happen if I could not continue doing what I do.
2.30am - first night time check, make sure catheter working and emptying into night bag.
4.00…☝️also for me to 1/
take pain relief (waiting for an urgent scan).
7.00am..up to give antibiotics for UTI, as hubby can’t take milk or other meds at same time.
9.00am Manage a couple of solid hours. Up. Bed bath, turn on numerous occasions to dress hubby (6ft, 13 stone). Cream etc to protect 2/
skin risk areas. 10.15…. Lift hubby into position. Get hubby sitting up to transfer. Takes quite a few goes this morning as hospital bed which helps us in some ways, makes transfers more difficult.
In hospital, all of this needs 5 + members of staff. Here? Just me. 3/

A personal #ActuallyAutistic perspective on getting urgent #healthcare for someone in a medical emergency, and being an autistic ‘#carer’, or ‘caregiver’.

There’s a liminal state between life and death I encountered once during childbirth.
It didn’t feel survivable, but it was. And when it was over I lay there exhausted like someone who’d been swept out to sea, then washed back in on the tide.

Decades later my partner had sudden respiratory failure.
I could feel him slipping away.
His grip on life depended on me finding the right words to persuade the 999 operator how ill he was.
Even then they could not get there quickly enough, so I bundled him into the car.

Apart from parenting children we rarely discuss being #autistic AND being a #carer.
I have personal and professional experience, and I’m interested in why it’s under explored.
Search ‘autistic carer’ and it’s assumed we’re the one being cared for.

I’m focusing here on caring for relatives, family members, or friends.
It’s something many of us find ourselves doing with no training or support.
My first experience of being a carer was as a young adult.
Back then (the early 1980s) the term ‘carer’ hadn’t even been invented.

One of the hardest things was being unrecognised and unsupported by professionals.
My partner had severe mental health issues and I might as well have been invisible.
Even after my existence was acknowledged no one had direct contact with me.
I was left to try and cope alone.

The #UKGovernment Torture Report

This is a very short overview of what the #UKAuthorities have done in the case.

#PraiseTheLORD #PraiseGod #Borisjohnson #Downingstreet #PritiPatel #UKParliament #Dailymail
In 2005, I set up a business selling CDs, namely mixtape CDs after graduating from Uni.

In 2006, my home was raided & my business was stopped. They said the CDs I was selling were in breach of copyright.
It was a complete shock as the exact same CDs I was selling were prevalent on most high streets and supermarkets. They were selling in their thousands in places such as #Tesco & #HMV. And #Woolworths were the actual UK Distributor of these CDs.

Our dad was born OTD in 1925 - traditionally we had to have strawberries and cream to celebrate. Back in the 1960s this would be early in the season so these would be our first and sometimes only strawberries.
He was born in Wales near @kivetonwales eldest son of a #YorkshireMiner who was determined that none of his children would follow him into the pit, and they didn’t. Dad won Miners’ scholarships to @KingsPontefract and from there to @Kings_Cambridge a two year degree in wartime
His closest brush with sport was to keep score for the school cricket team - he found God (or perhaps it was the other way round) at Uni and started off a theological career which took him to @SCM_Britain and a conference in India where he met our Aussie mum from @australianscm

Who wants to see the #Diversity data for @STFC_Matters, that was released by @UKRI_News last week?

The full data release is here, so if you want to see anything for yourself, go ahead: ukri.org/about-us/equal…
@STFC_Matters funds research & training into astronomy, particle physics, space & planetary sciences & nuclear physics. This is important because @ukhesa only report STFC as #physics – it’s so much more!

STFC have a #equality & #diversity statement here: stfc.ukri.org/funding/promot…
So, let’s start with @STFC_Matters #ethnicity data.

Worth noting that @UKRI_News collate three categories; ethnic minority, white, not disclosed.

We can’t separate out different ethnicity, which is a problem in itself. Image

Started to read some of these, and you start to realise the implications if society does not address the needs of 'invisible' groups, older men #awoc being one that requires urgent attention #endloneliness #transformageing #increasefun
What really resonates with me, & I'm not #awoc, although as a #carer I didn't have children, are the negative perceptions of older childless men. A recent experience when talk about @CM2MLtd was being interrogated for a good 20 mins of why a man wants to do this. It was all.1/3
about safeguarding & nothing to do with the needs of older men, so why did a man with #livedexperience get a grill? I can only think due to how some ppl view abusers men not live locally were view in a certain way? I carry my DBS with me, but why should I feel the need 2/3..
