1/🧵Ok it's only 10:30 in the morning and 🤯🤯🤯
Do you astro folx (who were raised in one of the Western monotheistic traditions) remember Ba'al from your Sunday/Hebrew/Qur'an school stories?
The "bad" god in the story of prophet Elijah?>>>
2/🧵Guess who Ba'al was to the Phoenicians?
✨The constellation Orion. ✨
Yup.
And they observed Ba'al/Orion's movements in giant reflecting pools that were oriented to the directions of the equinox and solstices.
These pools are found in Phoenician temple complexes>
3/🧵all over the ancient Mediterranean, as the Phoenicians were skilled sea-farers/traders.

I had known that the Phoenicians were amazing navigatiors (they got at least as far as the West coast of Africa and the British isles).
And I knew they worshipped Astarte/Venus>>>

#Carthage Tanit's balanced scale of fair trade.
The same scale (two sheilds balanced on a rod) seen from a top view. Same arch of heaven.

Plusieurs fins connaisseurs expliquent les méthodes de l’entrisme des Frères Musulmans:
@BestandjiNaem décrit leur ciblage de la gauche via la stratégie de victimisation et le militantisme islamiste autour du voile;
@djemilaben décrit leur capacité à séduire les européens

Classical Artwork of the Week - The Hellenistic Prince 👑🏛️

(1/6) This stunning Greek bronze sculpture of a relaxed, heroic young man was made in the 2nd century BCE, and stands at an imposing 2.04m tall!

#Classics #Art #Archaeology #Roman #Greek #Hellenic
(2/6) Produced using a lost wax process, the sculpture depicts a naked and athletic figure reclining on his spear in a pose traditionally associated with heroism. Inspired by the 4th century BCE "Heracles" of the artist Lysippos, it was likely produced in the city of Rome.
(3/6) The identity of the figure has been a point of academic debate. Alternatively known as the Seleucid Prince, the sculpture was originally believed to depict either Seleucus I, the founder of the Seleucid Empire, or Attalus II, the King of Pergamon.

Ancient Coin of the Day: A lovely Siculo-Punic silver tetradrachm, ca. 320-310 BC, showing a fusion of Sicilian and Carthaginian elements. #ACOTD #Sicily #Carthage

The Obverse bears a portrait of the nymph Arethusa, surrounded by dolphins, in a scene that would be familiar from the Fifth Century BC coinage of Syracuse.
Indeed the image of Arethusa was one of the defining elements of Syracusan coin issues, as on this glorious dekadrachm from Syracuse, Sicily, ca. 470-460 BC.

I am going to explain why the $XTZ rewards for last cycle were so low. TLDR: since the Carthage upgrade, the rewards fluctuate a lot before cycles, but on average, over time, they even out (thread)
As a #tezos baker, we provide two essential services to the blockchain: baking and endorsing. We are encouraged to perform these operations by a reward, which is added to our balance. We then transfer these rewards to our delegators in proportion of their stake, minus the fee.
For the #carthage upgrade, the power-that-be decided that the rewards for baking and endorsing would be changing.

Before: 16 XTZ for baking, 2 XTZ for endorsing
After: 40 XTZ for baking, 1.25 XTZ for endorsing
