The first meal I've cooked on my own land, on my own firewood. Local cod just cut up, put on the fire for 4 minutes. Salt & paprika. Divine! ๐

It's not like I go slurping water from any and every stream I see. I do my homework online first. I've only drank out of natural streams in Himachal (Spiti valley), Iceland, Patagonia, & of course the Catskills. All are as safe as water can be.

Catskills specifically, is the NYC watershed. There is extensive management, testing, and tracking by the NYDEP. Detailed reports every year. The water isn't filtered before being sent to our city taps. Just UV treated but even that is more caution than necessity.
Friday afternoon at our beloved land with chess, Scrabble, New Yorker, snacks, libations, bug spray, and a perfect t-shirt asking "bus kya?" ๐ค

I used think the same way until I came to the US and went outdoors. And realized why bug spray absolutely has to be a thing here.

One Lyme disease scare or one allergic spider bite and you see how real the struggle actually is.

We spend the day on the land until it's dark and cold and then head to a motel. Then return after waking up.

Now that spring has sprung, IDed many of those damned invasive Japanese barberries. And today's workout is going at them with machetes and axes.
Pulling them out by the roots is most satisfying! We can totally Tom Sawyer this experience lol.

I still keep waiting for some twist or catch cos this land is way too perfect given how little we paid for it!
Of course, our disinterest in building anything here is key to that.
