One week after the start of peace negotiations between the Afghan government and the Taliban, the Afghan army killed more than 30 radical Islamic insurgents in air strikes.
Taliban fighters had attacked army positions in the Chan Abad district in northern Kunduz province, the Afghan Ministry of Defense said. The army repulsed the attack with "active defense". According to the ministry, more than 30 Taliban fighters were killed,
including two commanders. The Taliban, however, said that none of their fighters had been killed, but 23 civilians. The Ministry of Defense said it was aware of this allegation and was investigating it.
