(1/17) After completing her degree in Interior Architecture, Upasana Pandey began working in a digital fabrication firm, where she says she learnt many tools.
(2/17) “I learnt the application of laser cutting machines, CNC machines, 3D printing techniques to design cool products, which helped me co-found my startup,” she recounts.
Upasana defines this as the inception of her ‘maker’ journey.
(3/17) Coming from an architecture background, I didn’t think something like Maker’s Asylum would be right for me. But I wanted to do exciting things, meet more people and work on complex world problems…

I finally went on my first-ever solo trip. How did this girl who has been timid most of her life, do this? Well if I have to sum it up in one word - regret - I didn't want to die with a regret. A regret doing nothing to make my dream come true.

So what was my dream? How did I do this trip? Read on to know more...

Since the time I was 15 years old (which is 21 years ago) I've wanted to meet #RuskinBond. We had a story #TheCherryTree from one of his books. This was the first Ruskin Bond story I read and since that day in 2001, I thought I'll meet him someday.

#Germany needs change.
But what is the change it needs?

In this new piece for @IPQuarterly I argue that rather than narrowly or introvertedly focusing on defence, 🇩🇪 (& its partners) need a #Zeitenwende that is:

Defence & the role of the military have (understandably) hogged the headlines since Chancellor #Scholz' 27/02 speech that seemed to herald a new approach.

- But the 100bn EUR special fund to plug some of the most glaring (military) gaps isn't enough
to touch the sides of the Bundeswehr's shortcomings and won't help #Germany consistently meet its #NATO 2% target beyond 2025.
Nonetheless, #Scholz has claimed that 🇩🇪has already made a "fundamental change"

"On 11 January 2001, I was heading home from my clinic when a man, whose advances I had spurned, threw acid on me.
It was the landlord who I had rented the clinic from. He would follow me and misbehave.
I filed a police complaint against him, and upon refusing to withdraw the complaint, he attacked me.
I would just lay in bed for over a year, thinking of what to do. I was disabled at the age of 26, and it was very difficult to accept.
I had to be mentally very strong, as the recovery doesn't happen overnight. I had to be consistent with the treatment. Reconstructive surgery cannot be done in one sitting, as acid is a dangerous, poisonous chemical.
My parents and sisters were my rock.

Today I was ratified as @CMA_Docs President-Elect, the beginning of three years supporting and leading the national organization that unifies Canadian physicians.…

I’m the first Indigenous and Pacific Islander in this position. @CashinMD is the first Indigenous Board member this year.

I’ve been asked many times about what being in this position means in the context of being Indigenous. Recent #CMAagm has consolidated a few thoughts.

Living #Indigenous means pushing through structural #exclusion and #disempowerment. It gives unique insight into how to #empower the disempowered.

I’ll be making space for you at all the tables I’ll be invited to. If that space doesn’t exist, let’s create it together.

If we want to talk about increasing diversity and inclusion in surgery, (a triggering 🧵) we have to normalize female surgical residents having children and lose the antiquated patriarchal idea that we as women are privileged to be joining the “boys club” of surgery so we must
Deny, hide or be ashamed of our biology. There have been numerous research studies and articles on how the rigidity of surgical training disproportionally affects female surgical trainees despite the number of female medical students now surpassing that of males.
This is, in part, is due to the disproportionate burden that women bear of pregnancy and care giving responsibilities. This is something near and dear to my heart-I had three miscarriages during residency-each time on 72 hour call or while operating.
