1/ @WKRG used a stock image of transdermal fentanyl for their Facebook posting of their report on the tragic death of 15 yo Adrianna Taylor & the arrest of a 17yo who alleged supplied her w/ the IMF that led to her death from illicit fentanyl poisoning.

2/ Illicitly manufactured fentanyl is driving the current overdose crisis - not strictly regulated pharmaceutical fentanyl which is used during anesthesia, pain, & as a transdermal patch for patients w/ severe chronic pain that's refractory to other treatment. @WKRG
3/ I recognize that this likely seems a small oversight. There is another less talked about opioid crisis: pain patients in crisis because they can’t access medication needed to function & have some quality of life. @WKRG

Finished up on the 3 day residential with @sounddelivery, learning the ins and outs of sharing your voice as a spokesperson within the media. I’m on this programme because I don’t want other disabled people to feel like they’re in this fight alone… A thread 🧵
When I first got sick at 12, I didn’t know anything about disability as an identity. Invisible chronic illness as a young woman meant I went undiagnosed for 8 years. #EDS #POTS #MCAS
Even when I got my diagnosis, after years of fighting the medical system and going in and out of support groups, the concept of disability as a positive was completely alien. #DisabilityTwitter

Hey harm reduction friends and drug policy nerds, let's share our #DrugPolicyResolutions for 2022 by using this hashtag!

I'll go first-

I will not affirm the "hard" vs "soft," "plant" vs "powder," and "legal" vs "illegal" drug binaries in my activism in 2022.
I will not call the current crisis an "opioid" crisis, since it is actually driven by:

- a toxic drug supply;
- overdose deaths;
- polysubstance use;
- prohibition;
- systemic racism, classism, and ableism.

#DrugPolicyResolutions
I will continue to bridge the research-policy divide in drug policy by highlighting that:

- all drug research is political (for better or for worse);
- people who use drugs should be centered in research;
- researchers cannot hide in ivory towers.

@lisaling

For the most part, I love your show, but there are some issues with the way that you cover the opioid crisis that I would like to bring to your attention
I’m proud to be part of #ChangingTheNarrative is an effort organized by @maisz, a journalist, @LeoBeletsky, an attorney, and @DrSarahWakeman, an addiction medicine physician.

We go after these tired tropes & more:
"Fentanyl 'Contact' Overdose" ❎
"Addicted babies" ❎

#ChangingTheNarrative identified over 20 oft-repeated errors, inaccuracies, and flawed narratives. Each one has its own page that outlines why it's wrong and how to do better. Take "Tough Love": Punitive & confrontational tactics simply do not help people with addiction. Period.
Many narratives we identified are deeply ingrained in American culture and must be challenged. For e.g. "Opioid Crisis as a White Issue": The data show that's simply not the case. POC are incredibly vulnerable to OD.

Now Michael Shaw of Reading the Pictures- he looked at race and the Opioid crisis imagery. He quotes the “call for gentler war on drugs” from NYTimes.
