Our @UNIDIR report on 5th #ChemicalWeapons Convention RevCon outlined 5 outcome scenarios. While consensus should be sought, State Parties will likely ask: consensus at what cost? Substantive issues will divide SPs, so consensus will likely be a dilution of the issues. 1/7 #OPCW

The #OPCW's new #ChemTechCentre seeks to foster the skills and expertise, and host the infrastructure, required for evolving CWC implementation requirements. So far 52 States Parties have donated to its construction - but how does that map on to regional groups? 1/3
That wee pie chart reveals that #Africa and #GRULAC have comparatively fewer contributing States Parties, a fact that mirrors the trend that there remain few, if any, qualifying #OPCW Designated Laboratories in these regions over the years. 2/3
The #OPCW Chemtech Centre should be used to engage wider range of SPs in scientifc and technical capacity building, increasing buy-in of many SPs who struggle to commit resource to a treaty that *appears* to have limited value to them, given historic focus on CW destruction. 3/3
