Some lessons we learnt from #ChennaiRains for those helping out in Kerala:

- Dry food like biscuits, milk powder, etc are better than cooked food or fruits (which can perish).

- If giving clothes, send one-size-fits-all items like sarees, dhotis than shirts/pants.
- Send torches, batteries. Portable chargers. Communication saves lives.

- If you are volunteering, make sure YOU don’t fall sick. Eat on time. Stay hydrated. We need you.

- MOST IMPORTANT: Do NOT forward unverified msgs even with best intentions.
on dealing with govt agencies:

Remember that they are flooded with distress calls. Do not call multiple times for the same complaint/request. Patience is hard, but needed.

In 2015, we would just text the NDRF officers with accurate info. Worked like a charm.
