Super Bowl LVII was historic. It was the first time two African American quarterbacks started in the Super Bowl. That's a big deal. The American Professional Football Association began in 1920 and immediate integrated with 4 Black players. Fritz Pollard was one of the 4 players.
However, in 1933, he and 8 others were quietly removed from the teams, never to return. The now-NFL remained segregated until 1946. It would be another 12 years before the league would allow a Black man into the coveted, 'thinking' position nflpa.com/posts/meet-the….

The @Chiefs won their second Super Bowl in four seasons with a dramatic second-half comeback against the @Eagles Sunday night.

Mahomes, who hobbled into the halftime locker room with his reinjured ankle, emerged a hero in the second half, overcoming a tremendous effort by @Eagles QB Jalen Hurts and leading the Chiefs to scores on all of their second-half possessions.

The Eagles’ big guys were dominating. Jalen Hurts was dealing. The Chiefs defense couldn’t leave the field.

And Patrick Mahomes' ankle?

“It didn’t feel good,” he said. “But I was leaving it all out there.”

Ok let's break down this #Chiefs vs. #Eagles Super Bowl matchup. Eagles opened as slight favorites and have remained there. It's about what I figured. Would have been a lot higher I think if not for Mahomes. Might as well dive right into the QB matchup.
For KC it's pretty simple: Mahomes is the best QB. He won't be 100% but I bet he's doing a lot better than last game (no inside info here, just guessing he feels better after two more weeks of rehab). Last game he still played really well, only affected materially a couple plays.
Pat raises the floor of the entire team. The Defense can be more aggressive knowing points will be scored, the Offense will produce more in every facet because of him. I wouldn't expect too much of a drop off in his play so you can bank on Mahomes being himself.

Ironing out kinks in the viz but here are #Chiefs vs #Cardinals receiving stats to tide you over.

Juju looks promsing, MVS isn't a thing but playing over Hardman in 2 WR sets, don't worry about Skyy.

Hollywood will be fine, Ertz part time coming off injury, idk about Dortch.
#Steelers @ @Bengals

Diontae will be fine, really strong Pat F showing, meh from Claypool and Pickens.

Chase is a star, prob don't care about Boyd even with Tee sidelined, even pre-Higgins injury it was firmly the Chase show.
Air yards data looking a bit suspect for a few teams, going to pause for now

A couple of years ago I published a weekly matchups thread with charts for each game, and this year I'm bringing it back! While I'll normally share on Thursdays, I'm so excited for Week 1 to start that I'm sharing this week's today!

Let's have a great season, everyone! 🏈
Before I start, here's a description of the 3 charts:
1. Comparing OFF vs. DEF key stat rankings
2. Player distribution of 2021/22 DK points
3. Player % of team rushing/receiving expected fpts

In addition to these charts, I'll also include one stat nugget relevant to that game!
#Bills @ #Rams (+2.5)
Game total: 52
BUF implied team total: 27.25
LA implied team total: 24.75
Key stat: Buffalo's defensive pass EPA/play went from -0.112 (2nd) with Tre'Davious White (weeks 1-12) to 0.035 (15th) without him (weeks 13-20). He's out Thursday night.

How the #Chiefs are adjusting to a changing NFL landscape (a thread): It's important to note the league is watering down its own product going forward in two ways:
1. 18-game season (likely next year)
2. Adding that 7th playoff spot in each conference
A longer schedule means each game is a bit less meaningful in the end, and more postseason spots means a team can be worse and still make a Super Bowl run. This is vital, because NFL franchises now have a better chance to grow/get better as a season goes on.
Think of the Chiefs through this lens. Last year, the defense went from atrocious to solid but they took their lumps and coaches had to adjust. That will get easier with another game, which means early season losses won't sink a team so quickly.

Some sportsbooks offer “Big 2” bets - which is the Packers OR Bucs to win the NFC, and Chiefs OR Titans to win the AFC at around -150 each.

Here is why this number is short and I think the “YES” on both is a good bet: 👇🏻

🧵
Starting in the NFC, according to my numbers, GB is 2/1 or has a 50% chance to reach the Super Bowl and Tampa Bay has a 24% chance. If you add the two, since you need either one to win to hit the bet, you get a 74% Packers or Bucs win the NFC.
74% translates to -285 in American odds, which is much higher than the -150 line and the implied 40% probability. “Yes”, on the #Bucs or #Packers to win the conference is a solid bet at the current price.

** Post-Week 7 Review // Pre-Week 8 #fantasyfootball Lookahead Thread **

Another thought dump rather than
Position-by-Position Rundown. Feel this format may be less organized but more efficient.
* Justin Fields Dream is officially dead
* Sounds strange but Allen Rob’s best hope = Andy Dalton
* Painful but still buying low on Cal Ridley as long as he keeps getting 10 tgts/game. Bye also out of way
* Somehow, ARodgers has been *better* in box score w/o DAdams last 3 years
* Tonyan & RCobb looking like must-starts on TNF as Covid wipes out #Packers top pass catchers
* Jalen Hurts drafters need a QB2 handy as benching rumors heat up. Suggestion: Danny Dimes
* Tyler Higbee peripheral usage screams buy buy buy. #Rams featuring him in scoring position

** Post-Week 5 // Pre-Week 6 #fantasyfootball thread **

Weeks 1-5 reinforced that one of the top commonalities between real life & fantasy football is we’re all trying to win battle of attrition.

In season-long FF, churning the end of benches is critical to winning that war.
QB Thoughts:

My personal Top 6 in NFL MVP race through 5 games:

Lamar Jackson
Kyler Murray
Tom Brady
Justin Herbert
Dak Prescott
Josh Allen

* In sports betting, this looks like a buy-low window for Patrick Mahomes, whose odds have lengthened amid #Chiefs early struggles.
RB Thoughts:

* Elijah Mitchell plays @ different speed than Trey Sermon

* AJ Dillon gonna be solid RB2/flx next 2 months

* I way undersold Zack Moss. Growing role + #Bills legit DEF + Charmin-soft schedule put Moss in great spot

* Must-stash: Marlon Mack & Rhamondre Stevenson

People forget the #Patriots were 1 yard away from beating the #Seahawks, a fumble away from beating the #Bills and lost their starting QB to COVID against the #Chiefs and still almost won with the terrible tandem of Hoyer and Stidham...
Newton had a two game skid after COVID (which clearly has an effect on players) where they got smoked by the #49ers and came down to the wire with the #Broncos
Point is, the #Patriots were a couple of unfortunate events from winning all of those games, and I know football isn’t black and white but 3/5 of those games could’ve/should’ve been wins. That team last year almost won 10 games.

I was pretty bored w/ the #NFC playoffs this year because once #Seahawks and (ahem) Goff / #rams were out, there really weren't any amazing stories to tell because almost nobody's legacy is going to change going forward, now #BucsvsSaints almost gaurantees it
If Rogers makes another SB so what? He's already a top 5 QB all time. Even if he somehow BEAT the #Chiefs (and that won't happen) who's he going to leap over on #NFL QB Mount Rushmore? Nobody. Another ring changes nothing for him
If Brady wins on the road in Green Bay and makes a 10th #SuperBowl what does that make him? The GOAT + 1? I mean, he's already the most successful QB ever. Another appearance or even beating the #Chiefs (Won't happen) doesn't change his legacy either

League sources believe that #Texans QB Deshaun Watson has played his last snap for the #Texans and the #Dolphins are his preferred destination, according to @AdamSchefter and @mortreport Image
@AdamSchefter @mortreport The #Texans had a 24-0 first half lead over the #Chiefs in the playoffs a year ago [January 12, 2020]

They are now coming off a 4-12 season with no first round or second round draft pick, no Head Coach, and it seems that they soon won't have their young franchise QB.
@AdamSchefter @mortreport Chris Mortensen added that Deshaun Watson likes the culture Brian Flores has created in Miami and also that there are no state taxes there like in Texas.

Nothing is formal, still early in the off-season.

Instant Round 2 Grades! Here we go! #NFLDraft2020

Starting with...
33. CIN - Tee Higgins WR9 ... C

My 44th overall player, I think there are better values & better WRs available.

I also would've gone OT here, unless an AJ Green trade is imminent.

Building around Burrow is a good move, though. #Bengals
34. IND - Michael Pittman Jr. WR12 ... D

I'm lower than many on Pittman - 53rd - I just think there are much better prospects at WR. Multiple are still on the board: Laviska 21st, Mims 36th, Edwards 43rd.

Also, not the route I would've gone here with such a valuable pick.
