But at a deeper level the blame & vitriol towards social workers in particular – inc some being spat at on the street - is misguided & will only make it harder to keep children safe. Highly anxious, defensive workers & systems are not conducive to effective practice 2/

I went to #PSBB and was part of the Commerce batch of 2007. The allegations in question are appalling and supposed inaction of the management makes things worse. As an alumni, and a member of the batch of 2007, I stand with the students who have gone through such horrible times.
In addition, there has been this statement on behalf of the 2007 batch doing the rounds on social media. This is NOT representative of the entire batch. Multiple attempts to trace the origin of this statement have failed.

Child abuse takes many forms, which can be broadly categorized as physical, sexual, & emotional. Physical child abuse includes child labour & hitting (or physically harming) children - which is a common practice employed by parents under the guise of "disciplining" them.
Sexual child abuse spans from child marriages to child pornography and sexual assault. Emotional child abuse, which is the most common form of child abuse globally, can refer to a wide range of behaviors such as verbal abuse, emotional neglect, withholding of affection...

True self-determination isn’t possible for Indigenous Australians in child protection (CP) systems when ur at the behest of government legislation & bureaucracy. CP systems are legislated differently across state/territory jurisdictions. There is no national statutory approach.
