Why is the government banning TikTok? It’s not about privacy.
The US, Canada, & European Commission banned TikTok on govt devices. There’s mounting pressure on Biden to ban the app. Former FCC Commissioner Brendan Carr expressed concern over data sharing w/ China, but advocates for closer ties w/ Taiwan

Senators Josh Hawley and Marco Rubio have proposed bills to ban TikTok, in what the ACLU has called “a serious violation of our First Amendment rights."

Starting yesterday, 10/25, the US-funded National Endowment for Democracy (NED) is co-hosting the “Global Assembly of the World Movement for Democracy (WMD)” in Taiwan. Let’s take a look at what the NED’s presence in Taiwan means for democracy and peace. (spoiler: it’s not good)
First, some context.
China has been a founding member of the United Nations since 1945. At the time, the country was also in the midst of a civil war at that time. At the end of the war, the Kuomintang government, Republic of China (ROC), faced defeat and retreated to Taiwan.
The Communist Party of China established the People’s Republic of China (PRC). The PRC was soon recognized by many countries in the Global South as the victor in the civil war. However, the US and many in the West took their time recognizing the PRC.

I've reviewed the resources @CodePink recommends as part of its #ChinaIsNotOurEnemy campaign regarding #Xinjiang #Uyghurs. codepink.org/china_faq
These resources promote a cultural response to alleged threat of #terrorism from #EastTurkistan/#Xinjiang, and I'm not sure if @CodePink would also approve of governments like #UK #USA #Belgium #France similarly "reeducating" their Muslim minority populations.
Aside from the condescension in the Chinese government documents cited, there is all but a total embrace of pre-crime activities à la Philip K. Dick's "The Minority Report." independent.co.uk/arts-entertain…

"The Biden presidency is still in its early days, but it’s not too early to point to areas in the foreign policy realm where we, as progressives, have been disappointed– or even infuriated."

Let's count the ways, shall we? @medeabenjamin @NicolasJSDavies

1⃣ Biden has failed to quickly rejoin the Iran Nuclear Deal, something he could– and should– have done his first day in the White House.

What happened to all those promises of "diplomacy," @JoeBiden? #PeaceWithIran bit.ly/Peace-Iran
2⃣ Biden is following in the footsteps of warmongers by continuing attacks on Iraq, Afghanistan, Iran, and Syria.

A little tip for @JoeBiden: you can't bomb for peace. codepink.org/peacewithsyria
