1/3 This is Sam Bridges, the new vice chair of the #Maine #GOP and an 18-year-old #ChristianNationalist hoping to lure more young people to the party. Problem is, Sam is anti-gay marriage, anti-trans, and most recently, anti-drag show for adults. #mepolitics
2/3 Also, Sam says God encouraged him to run for GOP vice-chair as part of the far right coup d’etat that seized control of the @MaineGOP on Jan. 28. In E2 of the Disinfomaniacs podcast @aobrien2010 , @nathanTbernard and I...

Next iteration of ReAwaken America Tour starts today in Pennsylvania with speakers like Michael Flynn, Eric Trump, Roger Stone, Doug Mastriano, Greg Locke, & Mike Lindell. We've been covering RAT for a year in @WordandWay's newsletter A Public Witness (publicwitness.wordandway.org)
Our reports on previous ReAwaken America events have covered Flynn's #ChristianNationalist vision (publicwitness.wordandway.org/p/one-nation-u… & publicwitness.wordandway.org/p/the-sermon-m…), demonizing of political opponents (publicwitness.wordandway.org/p/the-sermon-m…) & use of militant rhetoric (publicwitness.wordandway.org/p/taking-off-t…).

Just dropped on Amazon Sept 5th. A “How-To” #ChristianNationalism book written by the right-wing, anti-Semitic founder of Gab. Ranked #15 on Amazon this morning and already has 160 reviews. Blurb on the back cover by Doug Wilson. These people aren’t hiding their goals.
@AndrewLSeidel @ardenthistorian @ndrewwhitehead @JemarTisby @kkdumez @AmandaTylerBJC @anelsona Just a little fan promo. Note the open self-identification as a #ChristianNationalist and dehumanizing language (“take back this country from the demons”). This is headed toward violence.
Think @JeffSharlet @AntheaButler @kathsstewart and @jasonintrator would be interested in this as well.

🧵It's #LovingDay. Interracial families are what initially got me interested in white #ChristianNationalism. Our first study. We found this weird pattern: even though CN questions never mention race, whites higher on CN were more likely to oppose interracial marriage. Why? 1/6 Image
Curious, we found the same pattern regarding transracial adoption. Whites higher on #ChristianNationalism were less supportive of people adopting children of a different race. Why?

These patterns indicate CN:
1) is racialized.
2) sacralizes rigid boundaries & social order. 2/6 Image
For whites, we've shown indicators of #ChristianNationalism are read through the lens of white experiences & myths. Talk of "Christian nation/heritage" is heard as "our nation/heritage." In other words, CN questions have implied ethno-racial content: "our kind of Christian." 3/6 Image

A Palm Sunday equine thread: The imagery I hear from many voices in the #ChristianNationalist camp is about Jesus’ second coming, mounted on a war horse, ruling with an iron scepter. This, they say, is the future of the church and we should live into it.
On Palm Sunday, we celebrate Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem on a donkey. These two different mounts present a choice for us.
Yes, I understand that the crowd scattering palm branches meant the scene to be a coronation. But the irony is that Jesus turned the coronation into a perp walk.

1.) Apropos @BryanLowry3's KCStar profile of the man behind @HawleyMO's curtain, R political operative Timmy Teepell, a thread on Teepell's political mentor, homeschooling defense lawyer Michael Farris, who spear-headed the Christian evangelical takeover of the movement.
2. ) Lowry's profile of Teepell, @HawleyMO's leading advisor:

3.) Farris took over the homeschooling movement and empowered the Christian evangelical sect, in which children are homeschooled in a radical religious vision to take over the government. You could call them madrassas.

The former PD captain claimed he was working for the "Liberty Center for God and Country." It's goal is to "restor[e] our nation’s Godly heritage."

In this country, #ChristianNationalism is at the root of so much division, immorality, and, now we're even leaning, violence.
Like the name, Liberty Center for God and Country's mission statement is a textbook example of #ChristianNationalism.

But wait, there's more...
Steven Hotze is a #ChristianNationalist radio host/TX GOP bigwig. You'll remember him as the guy that asked Gov Abbott to issue "shoot to kill" for #BlackLivesMatter protesters this summer.

He's CEO of God&Country and penned the twaddle for its site. texastribune.org/2020/07/03/ste…
