Lots of great stuff in this piece that speaks to how the mindset and framings make a difference to what is possible and resonates with my own experience & patterns starting to hear from elsewhere. angelafell1.wixsite.com/website/post/h… Thanks for articulating @angelafell HT @DavidTWarner
Pulling out some highlight quotes:
“The local and national response frames people as the helper or the helped. The images used, reinforce the narrative of helplessness and vulnerability.”
#civilsocietyfutures @NewCitProj
“Every large institution has a policy or a statement in place that goes something like this. ‘We want people to do more for themselves & each other’. The Covid_19 response has felt like it’s been created in a separate world-It encourages dependency rather than inderdependency.“

Some thoughts (in no real order) following tonight’s #civilsocietyfutures event:

1) There’s an important balance to be struck between ‘empowerment’ of communities/groups & supporting good leadership. Current trend is to focus on the former, often to detriment of the latter.
2) I very much agree with @AnnaFowlie that there is much to be optimistic and hopeful about in the sector. Yes, there are big societal challenges and operational changes at the moment, but it’s not all doom and gloom. Lots to be positive about.
3) Many of our traditional big institutions (media, political systems, charities etc) are based on very old operating models that have not/are not keeping pace with demographic, social & technological change. This can lead to a very negative prism through which they frame issues.
