“I’m afraid that by the time they offer this vaccine and get the education around it, it’ll be too late for [my husband].” - Theresa Grady, whose incarcerated husband is 66 years old with underlying health issues. 2/
Our statement in response to the story:

New York must listen to public health experts, ensure that incarcerated people have access to the vaccine, and decarcerate our prisons.

The university which prides itself on serving communities of color should not be investing in the exploitation of our communities. It is time for CUNY administration to cut ties w/ Corcraft, divest from prisons, and support the call for #ClemencyNow

💥ICE Wants to Deport Shakoure, A U.S. Citizen!💥

2/134 days in ICE Jail & Shakoure's U.S. citizenship STILL denied. Last week's hearing was contentious. Vital records from several agencies have still not been received by his attorney. Without these records, nothing moves forward and he sits in jail day after day. #FreeShakoure
3/Help us free Shakoure before ICE manages to deport him to a country he has never even visited.

Now, more than ever, we must work together for justice and freedom.

UPDATE: Today, Cuomo was asked specifically about Alec Baldwin’s call to use his clemency power to release more people. His smug response is a page out of the Willie Horton playbook: “How about if they’re violent & they just started their sentence.”
Here’s video of Cuomo responding to Alec Baldwin. The reporter pressed Cuomo that Baldwin was talking about elderly, pregnant women, vulnerable, & those in last year of sentence. Cuomo’s dodge: “We’re already doing that.” But, he is not already doing that.
The reality of Cuomo's inaction:

40k+ caged in Cuomo’s jails/prisons w/ no ability to social distance
5k+ serving time on technical (non-crime) parole violations
7k+ people set to be released w/n 1 year
6k+ clemency petitions gathering dust on his desk
< 1% of elders released

WOW. Just received. A powerful video message from Alec Baldwin to @NYGovCuomo: "As the pandemic spreads, public health, safety, & basic moral decency demand you use your power to issue clemency to the most vulnerable & reduce the overall population of state jails & prisons.”
“This is a difficult time for NYC, for our state, & entire world. I wish everyone good health. That includes people in prisons, jails, & immigration detention, where social distancing & proper hygiene are simply not possible & countless people are at risk of illness and death.”
“This message is for Andrew Cuomo.” Prisons are breeding grounds for the spread of coronavirus, infecting incarcerated people, officers, families, & the public at large. @NYGovCuomo must save lives by granting #ClemencyNow & reducing the prison population.cuomoletthemgo.com/demands
