So, msg from my 35 yrs of research on Cdn env policy: When officials say they seek to "balance the economy and the environment," here's what they really mean: 1/n #abpoli @EdmontonJournal #cdnpoli

@edmontonjournal They mean that the private sector will set the limits of the regulation according to the cost they are willing to pay without sacrificing profit. A proposed threshold above this "bottom line" will provoke threats of disinvestment. @JonathanWNV @cathmckenna @JustinTrudeau 2/n

I was asked to look at a "Billie Eilish Pirate Baird O'Connell" I hadn't ever heard of this celeb before but of course I do notice the 3 six letter names right away. Billie .6. Eilish .6. Pirate .6. A typical "promote me" kind of name comm. #Qanon
2.
Her other names also have comms in there - "O'Connell" - "owe" - Note this pic from the Rothschild that apparantly made her famous. Names can at times be a roadmap to purpose in comms.
3.
That includes the "Connel" part of the name as in "conning"- apparantly she's known for being a massive environmentalist -particuarly propping up Greta Thunberg and the #ClimateStrike - note the money behind Greta is literally the same as Billie #QAnon

Thoughts of a 17-year old on #COP25:

First of all, there is very little international news coverage, which makes it hard for people who were not at COP, or involved in the environmental moment, to know what’s going on at the place that’s is supposed to define climate ambition
So let me break it down for you:

1) Only *one* big polluter, the UK, released a plan to cut carbon emissions by 2050

2) Article 6, which decides whether or not “human rights” are to be included in carbon markets, was inconclusive. Hint: human rights are a *must*
3) Endesa, the biggest polluter in Spain, was a diamond sponsor of COP25. If you ask me, they just wanted to greenwash their pollution.

This was my very last experience of #COP25. As luck would have it I was on my way to the exit just as the #climatestrike inside the venue began. I stashed my suitcase in a corner and sat in the floor with hundreds of others.
And some of the tears that I haven't let flow all week finally did during this song, when all the young voices joined in. They are so young and so beautiful, these children and youth from all over our incredible planet.
All they are asking is to be given something I took for granted at their age, a stable biosphere, the precondition for everything else that I may have made of my life.

🌎The Week In Climate 2nd -8th Dec🌍

From #COP25Madrid to new climate forecasting models being analysed, as well as lots in the realm of politics, we have a lot of ground to cover.

Let's start with ...
🏢THE SOCIETY🏡

1 - @GretaThunberg & other activists have had an overwhelming presence at #COP25Madrid. Also, African countries - lowest historical emissions, but most vulnerable to climate change - have sent 4 of the largest 10 delegations

A new thread as #COP25 begins.
I am totally fed up with the messages about 1.5C or 2 C warming
And fed up with the "Lalaland" way of thinking that "we are about to cut emissions"
So i decided to sum up the data i have..to call this BULLSHIT
It's time for all to WAKE UP

Yes. This is beyond grotesque. Klein references a Bolivian initiative under the Morales gov't - as a lure to promote the GND - without a single acknowledgment to the coup itself.

What Klein does not reference is far more compelling: the 2010 People's Agreement of Cochabamba.
The Cochabamba People's Agreement (April 2010) came out of the Bolivian World People's Conference on Climate Change and the Rights of Mother Earth conference. It was Indigenous-led, with people attending from around the world. #Bolivia

theartofannihilation.com/350-agent-sabo…
#Whiteness and racism played a key role at this conference.

350's (Klein serves on the board) sole purpose for attending the conference in Bolivia was to literally undermine the host country’s official policy position on climate change (300 ppm, 1ºC limit, etc.)

#ClimateStrike today @GretaThunberg. An old lady told us that we were breaking the law, told us to "to fucking move" and was incredibly aggressive. This was unpleasant, BUT it highlighted how lucky I am. There are strikers who face arrest or attack simply for speaking out (1/...)
@MakichyanA @NlocyJ @howey_ou and SO MANY MORE incredibly brave people from indigenous communities and countries with repressive regimes deal with fear of real consequences every day. It may be unpleasant to be shouted at, but it highlights my privilege and how lucky we are(2/..)
We as climate activists in the west have a duty to amplify the voices of those who aren't being heard and who aren't given the opportunity to even speak. If I'm shaking after a crazy old lady hurls obscenities at me, how must it feel to be to live in fear? #ClimateJustice

Unicef report: how children, and particularly the most vulnerable, are affected.

The distribution of the world’s 2.3 billion children has important implications for assessing the impacts of climate change.

Population under 18 yrs of age per sq km (2015).unicef.org/reports/unless…
'Under a ‘business-as-usual’
scenario (RCP 8.5) approximately
1.45 billion children will be living in
zones where average temperature at surface has changed from 0-2ºC to 2-4ºC'.

Unicef's 2015 report suggested 2050, but climate breakdown is faster than expected.

Just like clockwork. World Economic Forum - the movie.

On October 28, 2019, the documentary The Forum, opened the 62nd edition of German documentary festival (DOK Leipzig).

Because "to change everything, we need everyone".

Director Marcus Vetter: "Eventually we have to overcome some of our preconceptions. The elite may not appear as evil as we think they are. There are good and bad people..."
con't: "The film is asking the question, 'Is there not maybe still a middle way, one in which everyone comes together instead of separating from one another?'"

On Friday, Oct 18, while the world is on #ClimateStrike, @The_Corres will be convening a panel of youth climate activists from around the world.

We are doing this to help raise their voices and spread their message, but more importantly, it’s for you.

thecorrespondent.com/67/a-global-co…
@The_Corres Youth climate activists, like those we’re hosting at @The_Corres, already know the work they’re doing is hard. They struggle every day. They see the world around them: Uncaring, indifferent to their right to simply exist.

Our hope is that you—our readers and members—will listen.
@The_Corres We believe that stories have the power to change people. And we believe that a better world is possible.

Change won’t happen on the scale that science says is necessary without a revolution in thought & action.

We are inviting you to help shape that world through conversation.

A denier asked me the other day: "why should we be listening to some 16 year old kid?"

"Would you prefer to listen to climate scientists?"

Crickets.

#GretaInAlberta
When the kids in America had enough of the mass-shootings & took on the NRA, inevitable response from the adults who like things exactly as they are was: "they're puppets." It's what you say rather than listening, let alone stepping up #GretaInAlberta
One of the prime messages @GretaThunberg makes over and over again can be distilled down to "listen to the science and act accordingly."

Imagine adults thinking that's controversial. #GretaInAlberta

[Thread] 1/ This one's for @GretaThunberg . I was interested in the overlap of pro-Trump and right-wing accounts with climate denial #climatechange denial. Given Trump's obvious steer & tweet against Greta, I was curious to see how ppl spoke her on Twitter #climatestrike
2/ Disclaimer: Greta has 2.8 million followers, and will be inundated with tweets. Indeed the number of people mentioning her on Twitter is huge. In a 12 hour period yesterday there were around 51,000 people interacting with her. See below >
3/ This was from around 16,000 unique accounts. Given that climate denial should be a fringe belief, it makes sense that Trump's hue and cry to attack Greta awoke the MAGA trolls. In this sample of 16,000 accounts, there are a few points worth highlighting...

For weeks and months, i have been tracking the arctic temperatures and the decline of the icecap.

What is happening there? Icecap is down over 50%.
Albedo effect will be massively impacted by this.

We learned a few days ago, that scientific expedition in the east siberian arctic just found methane fountains bubbling on the sea surface , in the middle of the east siberian sea.
Some of the implications :

Here is the theory:
1/ Increasing periods of open water implies an increasing number of storm events.. Such events have the potential to rapidly ventilate bubble-transported and dissolved CH4 from the water column, producing high emission rates to the atmosphere

[Thread] As i've said. You are not gaining sympathy for your movement with these kind of protests. Look at the replies. 80% is negative towards you. You are doing more harm then good. You are costing people money, and now you are asking for donations as well? This is not the way!
Use your resources, your following, to educate people instead.
