Governments make me laugh!!!

Most Governments, across the world, have implemented severe, strict 'covid restrictions' on their jurisdictions.

#CovidTesting
#Lockdowns
#StayHome
#WearADamnMask
#SocialDistancing
#WashYourHands
#CloseTheSchools
#CloseBusinesses
#CovidVaccine
Covid 'cases' and 'deaths' still increase by the thousands.

Governments double down.

As this occurs, the Governments place harsher restrictions on their citizens.

#Isolation
#CovidCurfews
#ManatoryVaccines
#CovidFines

All these 'covid restrictions and regulations' don't work
Did it ever occur to these Governments that their 'covid strategies' are not the solution?

ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!

Meanwhile,

1⃣ Economies crumble
2⃣ Unemployment increases
3⃣ Bankruptcies galore
4⃣ LTC Homes become death traps
5⃣ Mental illness increase
6⃣ $Billion for covid relief

The kids are finally back at school. 🍾 (thread)
Without exaggeration, a lot of parents I've met this week (here in one of London's poorest areas) are traumatised by the last 6 months. Teenagers have gone missing and been returned by police - some of them recruited by drug gangs
Domestic violence has been widespread. Children are suffering anxiety. The dread that classes might close again if there's a single case of Covid is often expressed. People, especially single mothers, and especially those with mental health issues are beyond breaking point 2/6
Anecdotally, there's been a surge of badly injured children admitted to hospital. The education system has simply failed to do its job: not just education, but being a safe, protective place for children living in terrible circumstances 3/6

In watching the UK govt response to #COVID19 I have passed through several phases: an initial #Contain my anger phase led on to the #Delay kicking the furniture phase, and then to the #Research phase, wherein I ask repeatedly:
WTF are they doing?
With that in mind, please excuse me while I review the reasons why the Government will not yet #ClosetheSchoolsuk.
Reason #1: “Trust us, we’ve got the science”. Never mind that other countries have come to the opposite conclusion. We in the UK have better science.

Here are some things I think that San Antonio (and other officials) should consider when evaluating whether /when to close K-12 schools, given what has been reported about the population most vulnerable to #COVID19.

(IANAEpidemiologist)
Spoiler Alert: More than 60 million Americans live in multigenerational households, meaning that those most vulnerable to the virus *cannot* isolate themselves from kids who bring the virus home with them from school.
First, I should say that I am persuaded by the guidance I have seen from experts that extreme social distancing measures are needed *now* and it is better to do them too soon than too late. So, cancel events, work from home, close universities and schools.

Does closing schools slow the spread of coronavirus? Very useful insights from an interview with @NAChristakis on @ScienceMagazine @NewsfromScience
Hint: Proactive school closures matter

Very relevant for DC-area schools @WISRedDevils @JustinSandefur
