Colorado used to be an @NRA stronghold. Today, it's @MomsDemand country. How did we get here? The unglamorous, heavy lifting of grassroots activism.

A thread... #coleg
Let's go back to 2013. After then-Colorado Gov. Hickenlooper passed sweeping gun safety laws in the wake of the Aurora mass shooting tragedy, the NRA worked to recall two state lawmakers to send a signal to other lawmakers - everywhere - considering something similar.
Due to divided general assembly, we didn't make headway for nearly SEVEN years. But in 2018, after @MomsDemand volunteers helped elect gun sense champions (including survivor @Sully_720) the 64th Colorado session was the first to be controlled by Dems in 40 years.

We are so PUMPED to be back at House Judiciary committee to hear HB23-1187 Alternative Sentencing for Pregnant People #copolitics

HB23-1187 will ensure that #pregnant people have the opportunity to #alternative sentencing 🔥

@S2SSisters @elephant_circle
We know that pregnancy is contraindicated towards a #healthy pregnancy & being incarcerated while pregnant is harmful to both the pregnant person and the child - #reproductivejustice is what we are fighting for today #copolitics @elephant_circle @S2SSisters
Correctional facilities are not mandated to track or report pregnancy-related data & most facilities do not have any routine process for collecting such information - another reason why we are saying YES on HB23-1187 #copolitics #leadership #reproductivehealth

Another great piece from @BySajaHindi @denverpost on how, with Roe overturned, Colorado legislators plan to build on the abortion rights protections in last year's Reproductive Health Equity Act.
#copolitics #coleg
"Karen Middleton, executive director of Cobalt, said the reproductive rights group has received reports of doctors in Colorado getting called by doctors in Texas threatening to report them because a patient had mentioned they’d provided them with an abortion. The proposed bill
would protect the privacy of both the doctors and their patients from potential lawsuits and criminal charges.

A THREAD on COLORADO law

Want to review a CRITICAL aspect of a NEW CO law that is limiting transparency when it comes to the man now suspected of murdering 5 and shooting/injuring 17 others in Colorado Springs over the weekend

It involves this bill

leg.colorado.gov/sites/default/…
HB19-1275 SAILED through the 2019 legislative session.

It was passed with good intent. A desire to keep people away from the burden of previous convictions/arrests. Particularly minor ones.

Here are some basics.
So what does this have to do with Colorado Springs?

Well, for one, we KNOW the alleged shooter was arrested just last year.

There was a bomb threat. And deputies recommeneded felony menacing/kidnapping charges.

This is the press release
