[THREAD] Today marks the one year anniversary of the release of the open letter from 600 Black advertising professionals that sparked a mass movement for change in our industry. I want to take a moment to reflect on the lessons learned and where we need to go next.
Lesson 1: Identifying the problem is easy. Solutioning for it is hard.

In my opinion, the success of the open letter is largely due to the clarity of its demands. By sticking to twelve focused problem areas, it gave agencies a roadmap for change.

But a roadmap isn't enough.
Outside of the release of agency diversity data -- which turned out to be relatively easy despite decades of claims to the contrary -- and commitments to change to improve representation, I have seen little progress on the 10 other action items.

Today, @AAMC_MCAT held a webinar that was unannounced on social media. The slides from this webinar, as well as additional files, were sent to us (unprompted) by several attendees so that we could see the data the AAMC presented.

As far as we can tell, it was billed as an update from AAMC to med schools on how the 2020-2021 AMCAS cycle is progressing. In the words of one attendee, however, “It was mostly AAMC attempting to get ahead of you all with messaging.” 2/
It is important to note that we’ve made extensive efforts at transparency. It is disappointing to learn that AAMC has not. We appreciate the allies who have reached out to share this and other information. We hope that someday applicants can be included in the conversation. 3/
