:: Content Design ::

The UX magic happens when content creation, design principles and application/HTML markup/CSS intersect.

But it's not as easy as it appears,
due to display variances (such as "5 lines" on Desktop isn't 5 lines on Mob!)

>>>
It starts with ... the User.

Good content design is grounded in knowing what the user wants, and how they want it.

(I know the general rule is stuff like "write for an 8th grader" or "16yo" etc. - but that doesn't work when your audience is literally brain surgeons!)
The audiences language and knowledge "levels"
defines things like whether you can include:
* abbreviations
* topic/industry terms/jargon
* sentence length
* sentences per paragraph
* distance between references
* overall length of content
etc.

Are you a copywriter or content designer sick of bad briefs?

Here are 3 steps to follow so you can improve your chances of producing effective content, and make the whole content creation process more efficient 🧵

(Free template below)
1. Get clear on the fundamentals.

Getting clear on audience needs and business goals (the reasons for creating your content), is always the best place to start.

• Why is this content important to the organisation?
• Why will users care?
2. Make sure your user’s wider context is considered (the behaviour around your content).

How a user has been primed (and the behavioural mode they’re in) can completely change how they react to your content, so it's important to capture those details.

I've been on a lot of UX recruitment panels recently, and I'm seeing too many people fall into the same traps. So here are my tips for bossing a UX role interview! (thread) (1/11)
If you're asked for an example, STAR is your friend (Situation, Task, Action, Result). You might think it's boring and formulaic to use that structure in every example, but so what! Do it, please! It tells me everything I need. (2/11)
Talking of STAR, people spend a lot of time talking about the situation and task stages. I get it! This was your world for a long time, you want to tell me all about it. But don't spend too long there. (3/11)

Remember their catalogs? #TrustworthyBook offers lessons from them for so many content types. 2/20 Closeup of catalog showing portmanteau jacket and Hunter S.

@KurtKragh How do we make it simpler rather than adding complexity?How do we deliver tools to the front-line staff who need it the most?
How do we deliver more in a way that is easier and simpler than what we did last year? @james_steptwo #EuroDEX #IntraTeam20
So @james_steptwo says #intranets aren't sexy (I beg to differ) though he's not afraid of using the i-word #EuroDEX #IntraTeam20 Man on stage in front of a slide about the I word
