Since the #coronavirus pandemic started the Australian #superannuation pool has lost 13% or $350 billion. #abc730 @AlanKohler
“Someone in their 20s has 40 years of super savings in front of them, so time is on their side, but someone else set to retire this year or next is going to get less than they bargained for. That’s got a name – it’s called sequencing risk.” - @AlanKohler #abc730 #coronavirusaus

I've been tracking every #Covid_19 case in Australia since it started. Here are a few interesting charts from that data covid19data.com.au #coronavirusaus #auspol #covid19australia #covid19
This one shows Australia’s #Covid_19 cases over time. There was a lull in Feb and things have gathered pace in March. You can see we’re in the midst of *exponential growth* with a hockey stick curve just like some of the hardest hit nations.
NSW accounts for a significant part of that, although VIC and QLD have seen an uptick in the last couple of days.

Victoria’s health minister inadvertently stepped on a minefield yesterday by saying she was flabbergasted a GP worked with upper respiratory symptoms, later found to be #COVIDー19, thread. #SpringSt #auspol #coronavirusaus
This highlights a deep flaw in our health system. States and state health ministers have almost nothing to do with primary care. State health departments offer advice and a lot of rules to GPs, but no funding. When a health emergency strikes, the state has limited influence.
GPs are self-employed or, contractors to health care chains (run by sharp financial operators), or to other GPs. GPs and private specialists are paid a fee for service by Medicare (federal), often plus private patient fees.

Dear @JennyMikakos : thanks for presser. Just wanted to comment about you being "flabbergasted" that the doctor worked. Agree that it's not good but wanted to tell you why. There is no sick leave cover for most doctors. 1/n
2/n If I am sick, I usually still work unless I am physically unable to get there because all my outpatients will get cancelled OR my colleague has to see double. Doing double work is hard. Even less chance of getting lunch than usual. No chance of leaving on time.
3/n patients are angry with you because you are running late (remember, seeing double the booked patients.) You do things faster. You might make an error. You probably finish 2 or 3 hours late and your overtime is not paid of course cos overtime is never paid.

Online teaching is HARD. It requires a complete shift from classroom-based teaching. It requires new skills & equipment to do WELL. It requires SIGNIFICANT uni support and infrastructure. And that does not happen overnight. The stress on teaching staff is HUGE.
For context: I have 15 years experience teaching in graduate and undergrad classrooms. Three years ago I moved online. I’m STILL learning about how to translate the dynamism of face-to-face to online to make it a quality experience for my students. It’s not easy.
To my colleagues here and abroad, as we navigate the demands our institutions put on us to go “online” - happy to share my tricks of the trade. I found a way that makes it work for me, relatively low-tech. DM or ask for threads on how. #solidarity #coronavirusaus
