Possibly controversial thread: We need to talk about New Zealand schools and #covid. I am well aware that going to #school is really important for lots of kids and their families, for all sorts of reasons. 1/
I am also well aware that there is a lot of pressure to attend school, again for all sorts of reasons. But at the moment, school may not be a safe place for your kids 2/
It is clear that most of the covid transmission at the moment is in the younger age brackets. That is ‘really good’ for the health system, because they generally do not end up in hospital, but that doesn’t mean it is good for your kid to get covid 3/
Catching covid is not inevitable. This is still a novel virus that may cause serious havoc to your body. There are a set of things you can do: 1. Do not mix with people you do not know unless you cannot avoid it. 2. Wear a P2/N95 mask whenever you are out, no exceptions 1/
3. Ventilate any space you are in with fresh air and/or build a #CorsiRosenthalBoxNZ if you can to scrub the air. 4. Hand hygiene, wash you hands often and use sanitiser whenever you need to touch something you do not control. This all seems extreme but it works. 2/
Herd immunity is a fantasy - the virus will evolve to avoid immunity. I'm hoping for next gen vaccines which may well be pan-coronavirus or at least pan-variant. In the meantime avoid catching it 3/3
