Prof Edmunds: "We need to be more flexible about delivering vaccines to children to ensure that we reach them as soon as possible . . . It is critical that we give booster doses as rapidly as possible to older age groups – and perhaps the rest of us. This really is urgent now."
Prof Edmunds added: "The epidemic is concentrated in the young and unvaccinated. We [in England] are vaccinating them, but at a very slow rate. Scotland has done much better."

I have signed. When you understand how much power there is in collective action and the possibilities it can bring about, no action feels like a waste of time, It only becomes arguably a waste when not enough people do the same, that's my point.#PublicInquiry #CovidUK
Rosannalilley.com/covid-britannia (bloody awful audio. Covid Britannia is certainly on my list to reshoot. Seeing the sickening revisionism, the government sought to have entered into the parliamentary record Covid Britannia has bee. Numped to top of the list
Closely followed, though, by
Ode to Tory Neglect through the lens of Ben Bradley MP after he posted a pretty Fucking fascy - anti-leftist- propaganda video on opposition day debates. Johnson has indicated in a message obviously written to be leaked he may “rethink clearly vacuous legislative debates.”

"In the meantime, a live experiment in lengthening the dose interval is underway in the United Kingdom. Bieniasz says he can’t say with any certainty whether vaccine-resisting viral strains will result. “But if that was my goal this is how I would do it.”" sciencemag.org/news/2021/01/c…
Surely this should put pressure on our gov to speed up timescales for a second dose...????

My beautiful mum passed away today from #COVID, after only 5 days. She was 51. I was lucky to be allowed onto critical care and hold her hand to the end. Please retweet this to ensure others stay safe and take this virus bloody seriously.

Sleep well mama 💓 #CovidUK #COVID19 Image
Thank you #NHS staff for all of the wonderful and amazing work you did to keep my mum going. Even after she passed, your care and consideration for us and our grief was beautiful #NHSheroes
So thankful for the flowers I've received from people. My mum absolutely loved flowers, and always said they brighten up a room. I know she's looking down on me and admiring them all 💐 Image

@olivierveran @jmblanquer

#BREAKING: England to enter second national lockdown for a month from Thursday 5th November

Hear the details from @BorisJohnson here. #CovidUK #Lockdown2 #lockdown #coronavirus #BreakingNews #BorisJohnson
This is terrifying!

#BorisJohnson says even if the NHS had DOUBLE the capacity it still wouldn’t be enough

The NHS has 150,000 beds & with the Nightgale Hospitals there is even greater capacity

Its biggest weakness isn't space, it's staff shortages.
#Lockdown2 #covidbriefing
The reality of “Yo-Yo” #lockdown has been known about since May👇

Govt scientists have modelled for 2nd, 3rd, 4th waves etc. but this modelling was not shared publicly by the secretive #JointBiosecurityCentre running the UK #COVID19 response.

1. (This is a corrected version of tweet I just deleted). Some perspective on #CovidUK hospital admissions. Here's an update of another graph (using data from coronavirus.data.gov.uk) that never seems to be shown. Daily number of new covid admissions as % of new cases.
2. So 87% of 'cases' at March peak resulted in hospital admissions. Now it's just 4.6% and is actually decreasing. And that's despite: increased repeat hospital testing now (so more false positives), and hospital admissions always go up in October.
3. And note: a person entering hospital with a non-Covid condition who, for example, tests positive after 3 weeks and several negative tests, is counted as a Covid admission.

This nationwide complete analysis of all adult deaths in #England & #Wales has found that the #COVID pandemic has resulted in an abrupt inflation in acute #cardiovascular deaths above that expected for the time of year. heart.bmj.com/content/early/…
That is, about 2000 additional deaths over a 4 month period.
Nearly half of the deaths occurred outside of the #hospital setting, either at #home or in #carehomes.

PM looks embarrassed as humours Bill Cash as he goes off on another EU bashing rant- confirming xenophobia (hates Germans) listing-Chancellors Schmidt, then Schöeder (1999) then Merkel to try to defend #ToryLawBreakers

I did a quick spot of analysis on the UK's Eat Out to Help Out scheme... what was the impact of 50% discounts on dine-in meals?
Posted today at @ConversationEDU @ConversationUK. A few key points... 👇🏼

theconversation.com/eat-out-to-hel…

#CovidUK
1/ the policy gave people a 50% subsidy (up to £10) on meals on Mon-Wed during August. This *definitely* enticed more people to dine out – almost 2x previous Aug 2019 levels on relevant days.

(this is data from OpenTable)
2/ after the policy finished, things went straight back to where we would have expected based on the pre-August trend.
No change in behaviour seems to have persisted into September.

For months, the British people have struggled make sense of the #COVID crisis, looking to @WHO, @IndependentSage etc. & ignoring inconsistent & garbled govt advice.

We’re on track to be one of the hardest hit in the world thanks to initial dithering & herd immunity. Our death rate will be worse than Italy, Spain & France *combined* We’re forecast to be 85K ICU beds short. But the news here is that lockdown might be extended? #CovidUK
@DominicRaab We need covid19 daily briefings that level with the British public: no nonsense, fact based, like NY Governor @andrewcuomo

@BBCNews We’re having to watch US cable news @maddow for honest reporting of what’s going on in the UK.

Level with us. Knowledge is power.
Correction: forecast is 85K beds needed. Short 20K plus ICU beds — on @IHME_UW University of Washington projections. Like everyone else, I would be happy if they’re wrong, but I’m also sure that it’s idiotic & foolhardy to dismiss this research as scaremongering or unpatriotic.

Tips for moderate to severe #coronavirus from a survivor.
1. Don’t wait, get help. Call a professional
2. Take control of your care, don’t settle for no
3. Know your “red line” and when 2 goto ER
4. Have some1 with U until it passes. Don’t do it alone
5. Rest, & get up and move
6. keep a running log of your symptoms. At least a sentence a day
7. Zinc seemed to help
8. Humidity helps on “those nights”
9. Menthol seemed to help
10. Get an inhaler
11. Get a pulseox, blood pressure cuff, and no touch thermometer
12. Use a CPaP if you have 1 in the house
Tip 1. get help. I made a mistake here. I didn’t respect #corona as much as I should have. At day 7 and 13 I should have gone to the ER. I called a PA that I trust and took her advice. I would have gone if she said to. Call someone if you don’t want to goto ER. But CALL SOMEONE

Very important findings from @TheLancet article:

1. SARS-CoV-2 is transmissible in community settings beyond household clusters. Importation and limited local transmission can occur before the lockdown.

2. SARS-CoV-2 is transmissible in community settings, & local clusters can result due to spread before travel restrictions. Enhanced surveillance & contact tracing is essential to minimise the risk of widespread transmission . #covidindia #covidー19uk #covidinus #COVID19 2of3
Enhancing detection and containment of local clusters of #COVID19 through surveillance of individuals with general pneumonia or influenza-like illnesses, and of people who have been in contact with unwell travellers is important. 3 of4 #covidindia

The number of #COVID19 infections in countries that're not testing extensively might be much higher. There are 2 main strategies

Option.1: Test all suspected & quarantine ( #SKorea)
Option.2: Strict quarantine & Contact tracing. (#Singapore & #HK) 1ofn
The #UK is following neither of these options. #India has a combination of two but partial implementation. As a result, both these countries will have more infections, only without confirmation. While #UK has stated that they aim to have herd immunity. #India hasn't said so. 2ofn
Managing #CovidUK is major #natural experiment that a country, that too a developed one is trying. I would argue that it is #unethical to continue this strategy. Aim of #Publichealth is to prevent deaths and minimise morbidity. The current strategy in #UK defies this goal. 3ofn
