For folks asking, we track this broad cluster of activity as MeteorExpress (s1.ai/meteor). They've used a variety of false fronts before– Indra (Syria wipers 2021), Gonjenshke Darand / Predatory Sparrow (gas Pump attack++), and *perhaps* Edalat Ali (IR prisons)
I discussed this briefly during my #Cyberwarcon 2021 talk .

I clearly haven't been keeping up as there have been other attacks since. And @hkashfi is likely a far better resource on these + local context.
Our friends at @_CPResearch_ followed up on further Predatory Sparrow activity in February– research.checkpoint.com/2022/evilplayo…

We are finally ready to start dropping the CYBERWARCON videos. As with every year, some videos won't be publicly released at the request of the presenter. The only way to see everything is to join us! Follow this thread for updates all week. 1/x
This year's #CYBERWARCON presentation by @juanandres_gs is especially relevant as cyberwar looms and the question of hacktivists and their relationship with states is explored. 2/x
The talk from @SiminK_ at #CYBERWARCON on WikiSaudiLeaks is incredibly relevant, given some context quietly dropped by the FBI just last week. 3/x

🧵Heading home after a great time at #CYBERWARCON yesterday. IMO, a good threat intel or #INFOSEC conference should mainly 1. Stimulate new thinking and grow the field 2. Facilitate genuine networking 3. Be fun! This conference is definitely all three.
I’m in awe of @JohnHultquist and Amy’s ability to basically will this thing into existence year after year with only a small volunteer force to help them. Thank you to them, the rockstar review board of John, @ridt, @olgs7, @t_gidwani for producing an outstanding agenda…
…and to everyone else who helped put the conference on! My gratitude to the various sponsors that also made this conference possible. Congrats to all on another fantastic year.

Today's indictments are a laundry list of Sandworm's misdeeds, some of which were never officially recognized until now. They are the most aggressive actor I have ever encountered and they have been my greatest concern for the upcoming election. 1/x fbi.gov/wanted/cyber/g…
In addition to the 2016 US election interference, Sandworm was responsible for:
-Intrusions into US critical infrastructure
-Ukraine blackouts and other infrastructure targeting
-NotPetya
-MacronLeaks
-Pyeongchang Olympics attack
The latter two are very important right now. 2/x
The Pyeongchang Olympics attack was the culmination of a lengthy harassment campaign following Russia's ban from the Games in South Korea. Attacks on Olympic orgs began within hours of the decision. DDOS. They sent an away team to hack orgs from right outside. 3/x

Greetings from CyberWarCon, the only conference bold enough to take a stance on cyberwar right in the name.

They are con.
For a first year conference, there are way more recognizable people than you'd expect.
I am also here.
