@ipcc_ch reports that b/w 1971 & 2010, oceans absorbed over 90% of the heat gained by the planet due to #globalwarming. This led to #sealevel rise and has also resulted in higher frequency & intensity of #cyclones worldwide. #ClimateChange #MumbaiMustPrepare @mumbaismagic
Indian Ocean has also warmed but what is worrying is the higher rate of #warming in comparison to other global ocean basins. Data shows that Indian Ocean’s rapid basin-wide warming of ~1degC over the last 60 yrs exceeds that of the global average of ~0.7 degC. #MumbaiMustPrepare
Arabian Sea & Bay of Bengal have also seen consistent warming in past decades. The trend in rise in sea surface temperature for BoB has been 0.16C/decade & 0.18C/decade for AS. Arabian Sea indeed has been warming quite rapidly and impacts are for us to see. #MumbaiMustPrepare

Today,PM landed at Kalaikunda airbase after doing aerial survey in #Odisha&Bengal

When PM arrived to attend meet, there was no one from Bengal Govt&Mamata has audacity to talk of #Federalism?

#CycloneYaas
Both CM #MamataBanerjee&Chief Secretary of West Bengal were present in same premises&yet they did not receive PM

#PM,Governor&Union ministers patiently waited for half an hour for #WestBengal representatives to turn up

@MamataOfficial is a deplorable leader,consumed by hubris👎
Suddenly Mamata Banerjee,in her arrogance, stormed in&handed bunch of papers on cyclone impact to PM&said she is leaving as she has other meets lined up

If this was not shocking enough, #MamataBanerjee even did not allow officers of Bengal Govt to make a presentation

#OdishaFightsYaas
As the country is at the peak of #COVID19 pandemic, we have not sought any immediate financial assistance to burden the Central Govt and would like to manage it through our own resources to tide over the crisis.
#OdishaFightsYaas
Sought assistance for long term measures to make #Odisha disaster resilient as we are frequented by such climate hazards every year. Highlighted #Odisha’s demand for disaster resilient power infrastructure and resilient coastal protection with storm surge resilient embankments.

#CycloneYaas: What is Landfall? How ‘Very Severe Cyclonic Storm’ Could Impact Coastal Parts During Landfall?

weather.com/en-IN/india/ne…

What is #landfall?

A landfall, in simple words, is the storm moving over the land after its intensification in the ocean (heat source). Therefore, a cyclone is said to make landfall when the centre of the storm (eye) moves across the coast. (Photo: Nalam Kanaka/BCCL)
The landfall usually brings with it high-speed winds, severe storm surge and torrential downpour, all of which can have a severe impact on the region. The storm usually weakens rapidly after landfall as the ocean heat and moisture that fuels the storm are no longer available. (Photo: SUBHRAJIT CHANDRA/BCCL)
