- Regarding individual dairy products, those who consumed milk and yogurt were more likely to have a modestly lower occurrence of NAFLD.

This one found that the consumption of skimmed milk after exercise may reduce subsequent energy intake, such that total energy intake is not different from a low-energy placebo beverage and reduced relative to a sucrose beverage.

Let me start with #insulin. In the 1970s, insulin was extracted from the pancreas of animals. In the 1980s, @Genentech, working with Eli Lilly (@LillyPad), developed insulin using a new technology that I call #PrecisionFermentation. It wasn’t animal insulin. It was human insulin.
The mainstream would say: “health care is slow, it can’t be disrupted.”

Well, here’s the S-curve of #PrecisionFermentation human insulin. Human insulin disrupted animal insulin in about 13 years.
#PrecisionFermentation is a concept that I coined in my @rethink_x report ‘Rethinking Food and Agriculture’ with @CatherineTubb in September 2019.

How, over the past 40 years, U.S food supply chain has become concentrated in hands of a few large multinationals, which serve as middlemen in everything from seed genetics to hog processing to supermarkets. Do we want such a business model in India; think hard, do we ?

This one found higher total calcium intakes to be associated with a decreased overall colorectal cancer risk in women. Image
- The study used data from 1991-2015 from the Nurses’ Health Study II, an ongoing prospective cohort study of female nurses who are followed up every 2 years, and who were aged 25–42 years when the study began in 1989.
- Overall, a strong association was observed for dietary calcium, especially dairy calcium, but not for supplemental calcium.

Many people ask - I'm eating what my grandparents ate. They were vegetarians & were (mostly) healthy & slim.
Why do I have #metabolic issues? Why should I change my food?
(I'm referring to 👵🧓 before the 1980-90s era)
Consider these answers (A THREAD)
👇🏽
1. NO FOOD MILES & CLEAN EATING
Have you seen them eat from a hotel? Or buy from a shop?
They always ate locally sourced items, home cooked simple meals. Grains, Fruits & veggies didn't have the amount of #pesticides that are found today.
2. SUGARS & TREATS FOR SPECIAL OCCASSIONS
Sugary food, snacks & treats were mainly reserved for special occasions & feasting times. They were NOT an everyday item.

#Ukraine #Dairy #export during the #war 🧵1/ The war has made especially big impact on dairy exports. The developed logistics supply chains to traditional markets of the post-Soviet countries were broken. It is now impossible to load goods through our seaports.
#Ukraine 2/ Generally, importers are cautious about any procurement dealt with a country at #war. As a result, despite the promising world market conditions, domestic producers have had to drastically reduce dairy #exports, while often selling products well below world prices.
3/ #Ukraine #dairy producers are losing the markets of Central Asia and the Caucasus because of the #war. Extremely problematic are exports by sea to the countries of SE+N Asia and MENA, where previously large quantities of milk powder, whey, and in some yrs, butter were shipped.

The way our bodies are able to use the #macronutrients is fully dependent on how our #enzymatic pathways are influenced by various #micronutrients. One of the most important amongst is #magnesium.

Why it's important to know what *they* mean by the phrase "nutrient dense."
The 2020-2025 Dietary Guidelines for Americans' third suggestion to "make every bite count" - Image
You might think you know what they mean by "nutrient dense," but let's check. So #dairy & #meat only qualify if they're low-fat because naturally-occurring animal fats are not nutrients, per DGA. Lettuce, a vegetable, does, per DGA. Does this fit your definition? Image
It gets worse!
"Plain Shredded Wheat," "Vegetable Oil," & "Sparkling Water" are nutrient dense but not butter, per DGA!!
"These folks can't be serious" you might think. Wrong. When dealing with them, insist on understanding their terms & phrases. Metrics (& language) matter. Image

The violently cruel reality of meat & dairy is out of sight . . .
Call me an optimist with too much faith in humanity, but I believe that If people actually chose to look at this reality many, possibly most would choose not to pay for it.

#Dairy
#LookWhatYouPayFor
#BeVegan
It’s the deliberate & wilful refusal of some to educate themselves that gets me;
“I can’t watch that, it’s too upsetting”
As if you have a right to be protected from the harm you pay for. You don’t. You are culpable- no demand, no supply. You’re unnecessary consumer choices cause this abuse, therefore you are by default an abuser.

~0.35%. That’s the annual methane reduction needed for agriculture CH4 to be #ClimateNeutral. Reduce ~5% annually, we can neutralize all additional warming from ag CH4 since the '80s. WE CAN DO THIS!

More on @CGIARclimate & @nature_org paper ⬇️
bit.ly/3mDg6BC 1/
GWP* vs GWP100 better describes how #methane emissions impact the climate. Using GWP100 overestimates the warming impact of constant CH4 emissions by 3-4 times.

AND GWP100 misses climate benefits with decreasing emissions.

AND undersells warming when CH4 emissions rise.

2/
Why is GWP* important? From the paper: GWP* emphasizes CH4 reductions can only contribute meaningfully to limiting climate change, as long as CO2 hits net-zero.

GWP* shows the true benefits w/ CH4 cuts. Making the work farmers/ranchers are doing to cut CH4 more significant. 3/
