Iā€™ve just finished an interview talking about a serial perpetrator who escalated to rape and murder. There were multiple victims that he targeted, all women, before he killed a young, female student. Itā€™s a PATTERN #STALKING 1/4 Image
I see this time and time again and yet nothing is done to identify these men earlier in their offending career. Thereā€™s no proactivity because itā€™s NOT A PRIORITY. Iā€™m so angry and frustrated by the missed opportunities to keep women safe and the lack of commitment to change 2/4
this and put serial stalkers & domestic abusers on the same register that sex offenders and terrorists are on. Itā€™s a huge cultural problem that we will only start to tackle through law change. Iā€™ll post the interview when it airs. In the meantime, WRITE to your MP & ask that 3/4

SBS is alarmed by @libertyhqā€™s revelations that the @ukhomeoffice rule on rough sleeping may lead to indirect discrimination against abused migrant women and other vulnerable groups. southallblacksisters.org.uk/news/the-mask-ā€¦
Shockingly an Equality Impact Assessment of the policy by @ukhomeoffice accepts that the rule may discriminate specifically on grounds of race eg against Asian women who are homeless as a result of domestic violence. It says this is justified in order to ā€œprotect the publicā€
Whilst the Govt continues to make claims about treating BME survivors as ā€œvictims first and foremostā€ in the context of the #DABill, it is increasingly clear that its hostile anti-immigration agenda will trump the protection of women and girls from violence every time.

Waiting for the House of Lords to vote on amendment 87C to the #DABill - to make it easier for a perpetrator to be removed from a joint tenancy without ending the tenancy. But earlier, saw the minister promise consultation and possible regulation in response to amend 66B. Image
The amend was to prevent a council from taking into account local connection for a victim of domestic abuse fleeing from council accommodation in another area in the councilā€™s allocation eligibility decisions. bills.parliament.uk/Publications/4ā€¦
Pleasingly, I recognised the amend as one that was drafted by @justinbates28 and myself for the Commons stage of the #DABill and resurrected by the remarkable efforts of @womensaid and others. I didnā€™t know it was coming back.

Today we mark #IWD2021, where we celebrate women's achievements and the progress made in the fight for equality. But we must also challenge the narratives, myths, and stereotypes that harm us. Take a look at this thread to see the many things we #ChooseToChallenge šŸ‘‡šŸ‘‡
ā€œI #ChooseToChallenge the lack of recognition of Black trauma and victimhood. We must better-equip services and justice agencies to understand how trauma is felt and exhibited by Black women, and not allow racist stereotypes to impact the support women need to cope and recoverā€
"I #ChooseToChallenge hostile environment policies that continue to frame female victims of domestic abuse and sexual violence from diverse communities as ā€˜undeservingā€™ of helpā€

Happy New Year. SBS is entering 2021 w/a renewed energy to fight for long-awaited protections for migrant women. As the #DABill enters #SecondReading in the House of Lords today, Govt must listen and use the chance to enshrine #ProtectionForAll:
We are grateful to @BishGloucester for leading on our amendments to extend the DV Rule and DDVC to all migrant survivors of abuse subject to NRPF. Without this women will continue to remain trapped in abuse and men will continue to abuse with impunity.
You can read our blog reflecting on the journey of the #DABill so far here. Pls RT and support #ProtectionForAll southallblacksisters.org.uk/news/all-of-usā€¦

For the 20,000 victims of non-fatal strangulation and suffocation, I urge Parliamentarians to take action now and amend the Domestic Abuse Bill. This needs to be a stand-alone offence. If this opportunity is missed women will die.
#NonFatalStrangulation
Police could much better support victims if there was a stand-alone offence of Non-Fatal Strangulation. 80% of survivors are likely to have a resulting health problem e.g. stroke or PTSD. The Lords should amend the Domestic Abuse Bill to fix this.
#NonFatalStrangulation
Domestic Abuse survivors of Non-Fatal Strangulation are 7 times more likely to be killed by their partner or ex-partner. A new Non-Fatal Strangulation offence would help these victims. I urge those in the House of Lords to support Helen Newloveā€™s amendment

Hello to new followers. We Can't Consent To This was a response to the short sentence of 3years 8 months given in Dec 2018 to the man who killed Natalie Connolly. He claimed that many of her injuries were due to consensual rough sex.

wecantconsenttothis.uk
Natalie is not alone. We've searched every news and legal archive we can to find there are 59 UK women and girls killed by men who claim that they consented to the violence. And many more injured in non-fatal assaults.

#WeCantConsentToThis
And here is what we found: In UK cases, everyone who uses this defence is male. Many have extremely serious previous convictions for violence. Those in relationships were often abusive and the women often leaving the relationship
